Table Topics Based on
Membership Building and Membership Retention
Let’s have a Table Topics session that is based on membership ideas. Make sure someone writes down all the
ideas and then plan a follow-up strategy.
1. You have a teenager who just turned 18 years old and is planning to go to a local university. How would you
describe to him the benefits of the 1-year TM membership to any Toastmasters Club in your local area that
you’re including in his high school graduation gift basket?
2. Your 65-year-old father-in-law just celebrated his retirement. How do you inspire him to be your guest at
your or another TM club local to his area?
3. You are mentoring a promising co-worker, who appears at times to be apprehensive and does not contribute
to the best of her abilities based on your knowledge of her capabilities. As her mentor how do you inspire your
co-worker to investigate joining TMs to improve communication and also leadership skills?
4. You have a member completing his 6th speech in the basic Competent Communicator Manual. He has voiced
that he will no longer attend TMs after he completes his 10th speech. What do you say to inspire and motivate
him to continue on the Toastmasters educational program?
5. What special events does our club have (like induction of club officers, Open House to celebrate the Club
Charter Anniversary, celebrate each other’s birthdays, etc,) that you especially like, and which special events
would you like added?
6. Why did you join Toastmasters and what future goals do you want to achieve as a Toastmaster?
7. What would you say to invite your program manager to our next club meeting?
8. What is the most unusual benefit of Toastmasters membership that you have realized, much to your surprise?
9. What is your favorite aspect about this Toastmasters Club?
10. What would you like to see more of, and what would you like to see changed in our club?
11. We have over 20 paid members, however only 6 to 8 come to any one meeting. What suggestions do you
have to increase participation in our club?
12. We all hear about Toastmasters from various sources - personal suggestions from family, co-workers,
newspaper, fliers at the local library, magazine in our dentist’s office, etc. What suggestions do you have for
innovative ways for prospecting for guests to our club meetings?
13. How did you hear about Toastmasters and what motivated you to visit and join our club?
14. What is the most interesting reason you’ve heard that motivated someone to be a guest or join Toastmasters?
15. What do you think about our club holding a 4 to 6-session Communications (Speechcraft) Workshop for
membership building and invite the public to participate?
16. Would you be willing to help our club hold a Speechcraft Workshop as the Speechcraft Coordinator, as a
presenter, by distributing fliers, or in any other capacity?
17. What do you think about our club holding an Open House Meeting to celebrate our club’s anniversary date?
