Engineer will actively support the Gurnee manufacturing facility through new, improved manufacturing or expanded manufacturing methods, cost savings ideas, Quality improvements, and implementation of the Danaher Business System tools. The Danaher Sensors and Controls Group manufactures and markets products that sense, measure and control temperature, position, quantity, time, level and flow in the Process Automation and Factory Automation Markets. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Trouble shoot existing manufacturing processes, fixtures, tooling or equipment. Design, build or procure improved fixtures, tooling or equipment. Work with manufacturing associates to promote and implement continuous improvement programs. Develop data and information for the justification of new or replacement equipment and the subsequent preparation of capital expenditure requests. Develop detailed analysis and effective recommendations for improvement of assembly processes with respect to Quality, Delivery and Cost improvements for assigned cells within the Value Stream. Develop and implement standardized work practices on the manufacturing floor. FIRST SIX MONTHS DELIVERABLES: Complete Danaher immersion process. Show impact on PPM results in mfg. cells that are assigned. Implement three new cost savings ideas for the plant. Help support new product launch action items for the plant. CAREER PROGRESSIONS / PROMOTABLE TO: Career path opportunities include larger/more complex Engineering or Quality Manager positions. Future positions could be in the Sensors and Controls Group or elsewhere in Danaher. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Attribute/Skill/Experience BS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related field. Minimum of five years of prior Manufacturing Engineering experience Experience developing manufacturing equipment and streamlining manufacturing processes. Examples include design of automated test equipment, design of jigs, fixtures, assembly tooling, custom inspection gauges to satisfy specific requirements Comprehensive technical knowledge of machine design engineering principles, practices, and procedures Advanced planning, detailed conceptualization, detailed design, checking, and tolerance analysis for form, dimensional fit, and overall function as related to design of production related equipment Indepth knowledge of manufacturing, machine shop capabilities and assembly operations. Working knowledge of CNC equipment. Excellent problem solving skills. Thorough understanding of strength of materials, kinematics and dynamics, product handling, part transfer and fixturing, process tooling, pneumatics, cam devices, stepper/servo motors, slide systems, sensor technologies and application, bearing analysis and machine control systems. Prior expertise in a motor manufacturing environment a major plus. Extensive knowledge of Pro-E design software. Working knowledge of AutoCAD required. Strong continuous improvement skills and leadership competencies to drive quality, delivery, cost improvement, short and long term results. Sense of urgency; being able to recognize and resolve issues. Ability to perform duties both individually and in a team environment. Able to work in a fast-paced environment, tolerance for ambiguity. Solid organization, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Demonstrated project management skills and working knowledge of standardized work practices. Working knowledge of the ISO 9001 standards and quality systems. Familiarity with Six Sigma, LEAN manufacturing or other vigorous quality control programs is desirable.
