One person per table volunteered to share all the table’s combined ideas with the entire group. This helped to generate ideas for new classes! Member Updates – “What does PVCC Need to Know?” – Will González & Jim Lee Debbie Drotar – Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce • Kudos - the Government Relations Staff from the MCCD are doing a great job representing the district Debbi Burdick – Superintendent, CCUSD • Cave Creek gave jobs bill funding to their teachers because they hadn’t had an increase in over 2 years. According to exit interviews: They are losing teachers in mid-quarter, mid-semester, they are going to private businesses Jim Lee – Superintendent, PVUSD • Mentioned -CREST building program • Reported on partnerships with ASU-CISCO-COX • Google gave them 750 chrome netbooks to demo valued at $700K because they have a reputation for cutting-edge approach to technology Will González – City of Phoenix Prosecutor • Reported about recently-held Veterans’ Stand Down program - Veterans receiving 24 hours of services: - Receiving restored drivers licenses - Working with sponsors to pay legal fees to resolve fines for veterans - Doing planning session for next year 3 - Opportunities for PVCC students involved from Criminal Justice program to participate Julia Devous – PVCC Director of Development & Community Relations • Reception February 11, 2011, 4:00 p.m. honoring the re-naming of the PVCC Library to the Jo and Warren Buxton Library for the gift of their art collection to PVCC Wrap-up: Will González – City of Phoenix Prosecutor • College Showcase topic is now Healthcare/Wellness - Event Date: Wednesday, April 6th - Location: Q-Building - PC is changing the model of this event format to a public discussion about an issue or topic of concern to the community - Open to invited members of the community - Community engagement is important - More details to come!
