Welcomed members of the CLC and provided opportunity for selfintroductions.

Shared contingency planning budget reductions, FY12-$100,000, FY13 $1.1 M
•
Invited newly elected legislative member, Heather Carter, College of
Education-ASU to join President’s Circle. Will also invite another legislative
member, Nancy Barto to also join President’s Circle.
•
Governing Board approved the purchase of an additional 12 acres of land at
Black Mountain for a price of $1.8 M. Bond interest funds were used for this

purchase. The land is located at the NW section of the property and could
be used as a gateway to the Black Mountain facility.
Announced that newly appointed Governing Board Member Mr. Doyle Burke,
replacing Colleen Clarke, will be on campus Monday, November 22 to meet
with the President’s Leadership Team, tour the campus and a be available at
a meet and greet reception from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Please encourage campus
members to attend.
Newly elected Governing Board Member, Dana Saar, replacing Jerry Walker,
will be invited to PVCC in early 2011.
Interviews for the final three candidates for the Institution Effectiveness
position, vacated by Laurie Pemberton, have been completed by PLT and the
President and a selection should be announced shortly.
Thanked everyone who worked on the Focus on 2014 committee. Suggestions
and implementation will improve teaching/learning and student success
Encouraged everyone to attend the final performances of the play
“Urinetown”.
Encourage everyone to support the women’s soccer National finals. The
women won the first round and will play the second round tonight at 6:30
p.m.
Acknowledged the M & O Staff, David Matus and Bob Metivier for the extra
sprucing up of the campus for the governing board members visit and for the
nice job Scott Fisher and Fred Reill did on replacing the peace pole outside
of the A-Bldg.
Revisitied with Ken Clarke and Norma Chandler on the importance of
Diversity and Inclusion relative to expanding hiring outside as well as inside
of Maricopa.
Attended the Employee Benefits Advisory Council (EBAC) meeting last
Monday. Possible $11 M increase in health care next year, a portion of the
costs will likely be passed on to employees to help pay for the increase.

Focus on 2014 Project Ends – Mary Lou Mosley, Patti Marsh

Patti Marsh reminded everyone that the Focus 2014 team was charged with
looking at effective, efficient ways to bring clarity of purpose and focus to
the 5 identified area of PVCC’s core stability to support student success.
And reported on the accomplishments.

Those five areas are:
– Strategic Planning
– Automated Planning and Budgeting (APB)
– Program Review (out of class)
– Institutional Effectiveness (IE)
– College Organizational Structure (Are we organized to do our best work?)

Thanked Dr. Dale for giving the college and the committee the opportunity
to be a part of the review systems. And to be able to move forward more
efficiently focused to reap the benefits from the committee work.

Jeanne Franco, Rick Vaughn, George Mathews and Carol Myers are working
on a new APB system by adding an assessment follow-up portion. The pilot
should be ready by summer.

-STIC – Steering Team Input Committee. STIC makes recommendations,
doesn’t make decisions. Team members sign up for a 3 yr commitment.

number of responsibilities given to IE.

Organizational Realignment – hard decisions were made in the realignment,
these decisions were made in the interest of improving efficiency and will be
revisited again in one year.

The last remodel to the KSC building was approximately 12 years ago.

 Hired a VA work study student to assist VA students at the counter

 Worked with Nursing to provide names of eligible Veteran students who may

 Worked on the clean-up report for calculation errors
 Maricopa went live with self service enrollment verifications.
 Attended the Noel-Levitz workshop at RIO

Attended APB training and began planning and budgeting process
Athletics PVCC's XC teams both qualified for the NJCAA National Meet. The women
are ranked 21st and men 4th in the most recent national poll.
 PVCC Women's Soccer team won the District A Championship and qualified
for the NJCAA National Championships. They are undefeated at 21-0 and
ranked #2 in the latest national poll.
Counseling –
 Co-facilitated Emerging Leaders with Student Life for the Orientation and
Retreat. about 50 students participated.
 Facilitated several workshops for faculty, staff, and students.
 Continue to offer and support Grief Recovery Group
Career Services –
 Implemented new online Job Posting website to replace Notebooks - called
PVCC Career Link
 Career Services continued resume presentations in Honors
 Began promoting Career Services in KSC Building (tables) every Wednesday
 Conducted Internship presentation with Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce
 Attended Business Advisory Council

 46 students and 4 student facilitators attended the Emerging Leaders Level
I retreat at Camp Sky –Y on October 22-24.

Student Leadership Council brought back the United Way Mystery Dinner.
Nearly $1700 was raised in ticket sales for the event, which was held on
Friday October 29.
Student Leadership Council is again sponsoring the Adopt A Family
program, beginning on November 2.
Student Life, November 2010 – Mike Ho, Dir.,Student Life and Leadership
•
Student Leadership Council held a very successful United Way Mystery
Party on Friday, October 29th, 2010. Over 65 guests were in attendance
and proceeds from the event exceeded $1600.
•
The Office of Student Life and Leadership and the Student Leadership
Council is sponsoring the annual Adopt a Family program. In collaboration
with St. Vincent De Paul, PVCC has adopted five families during the month of
December. Donations are due back in the Student Life Office by December
3 and the distribution of the gifts is scheduled to begin the week of
December 13.
•
Student Leadership Council will be describing the accomplishment of this
year’s council to date at the November 23rd Governing Board Meeting.

Q BUILDING PROGRESS
Final Stages of Completion Tasks:
 Punch lists generated to correct Quadrants A,B,D, and E: wall/carpet repairs and general building detail,
typical of new construction
 PVCC Facilities Services’ custodial staff began applying a protective finish to new cork flooring (11/16)
 Punch list back check is scheduled for November 23
Fixture Furniture & Equipment Delivery:
 November 18, Target and Goodmans (vendor companies) began delivering classroom tables, workstations;
recycle receptacles, and Steelcase work stations
 Additional vendor deliveries are scheduled to continue through December 23
Certificate of Occupancy / Permit:
 City of Phoenix fire alarm testing is in the final stage and is scheduled for Saturday, November 20
 Fire Alarm testing requires extended system activation to verify all devices are operating properly
 Certificate of Occupancy permit should be available first week of December, with successful Life Safety
system test completion
Parking /Traffic Circulation Design:
 Civil Engineering design and associated fees are near completion to increase traffic-flow efficiency from the
limited parking foot print

 AFA Fall Workshop, Saturday, November 6 12:00-4:45PM at the Rio Conference Center
Theme: Impact of Globalization on Teaching and Learning in the Community College
Over 40 adjuncts representing every college in the District attended the Fall Workshop.
Erik Huntsinger, economics faculty at Estrella Mountain Community College, used a World Café
Inquiry approach beginning with a short presentation on globalization.

This was followed by a series of table discussions focused on defining globalization, student
learning outcomes and pedagogy.
The response was very positive both on the subject matter and the structure of the meeting.

The AFA conducted a District-wide survey of all adjuncts regarding Tuition Waivers and
Adjunct Faculty Professional Growth. This information helps us understand how adjunct faculty
use these programs as we continue to develop them. Results of this survey can be found at
www.myafa.org

On Wednesday, October 27 from 5:00-6:30pm, the Adjunct Faculty Association held a Fall
Adjunct Social in the KSC 208 building. Adjuncts stopped by to discuss current AFA initiatives
and network with other adjunct faculty members.
