theme for the conference was “Sustain: How to maintain existing programs
with limited funds” and the workshop sessions included fundraising, using
technology, and improving campus recycling efforts.
Student Leadership Council Report – Malinali “Yolie” Ochoa, Chairperson
Association of College Unions International
October 9, 2009 Student Leadership Council was able to attend ACUI
themed Sustain 2009 at Arizona State University (main). We attended
workshops about fundraising, event planning and much more. This conference
will be a great help for future events for SLC. In addition we had the chance
to experience networking with other schools and bringing new and fresh
ideas to the campus.
Emerging Leaders I
Emerging Leaders I had their orientation October 3rd 2009. 48 students
enrolled this semester, which is one of the highest enrollments in EL history.
This orientation not only helped them understand what the class is all about
as well as interacting with other students and learning about the seven 7’s,
of leadership. In addition they were able to pick their service learning, which
hopefully allow them to increase positive social change.
Empty Bowl Sale
Empty Bowls 9th annual sale began the third week of October, with a strong
consumer attraction. This great event was sponsored Partners in Art club.
8
Every bowl sold will benefit the Foothills Food bank in Cave Creek. So far
they have raised about $800 and their goal is $1,000.
