“THE GREEN PACKAGE”
Over the last 5 years Britannia has invested significant effort in identifying greener
chemicals, paper products and Janitorial supplies as well as rethinking procedures,
engaging with occupants and more. A combined package of services, methods and
products that bring together facility cleaning recycling and waste management whilst
reducing the Environmental footprint. This is achieved in 5 ways:
1. Sorting waste in to recyclable material at source.
2. Vastly reducing the use of polythene and plastic bags for waste disposal.
3. Reducing the use of harsh chemicals through the use of periodic steam cleaning
of hard surfaces.
4. The total elimination of ozone depleting aerosol products
5. Using paper products that are from renewable sources.
1. RECYCLING
The current method of one small bin with polythene liner per work station would
be replaced by strategically placed “recycling points”. Consisting of two
receptacles, one for paper / cardboard products and one for all other waste. The
paper / cardboard receptacle would be lined with a reusable Hessian sack that
would be emptied in to the cardboard /paper container supplied by the waste
contractor. Normal waste would be disposed of in the normal way.

2. POLYTHENE BAGS
As individual small bins are no longer used there is no use for the white bin liners. The
paper / cardboard receptacle is lined with a Hessian reusable sack. As actual waste is
reduced by 75 % black bin liners are greatly reduced.
BENEFITS


The environmental footprint is reduced by less use of non biodegradable
polythene products.
Running costs are reduced due to fewer black and white sacks used.
3. CHEMICALS
The cleaning of washrooms, kitchen areas are currently reliant on strong acid &
alkaline products to ensure hygiene. Through regular periodic steam cleaning this
reliance is reduced. Only biodegradable products are used, this further reduces
environmental impact.

No non bridgeable products are used this means no toxic fluids entering
the waste system.

4. AEROSOLS
Even after CFC removal some aerosol products are known to be harmful to health.
Airborne alkaline cleaners can be ingested. Side effects of this can be lethargy, sore
eyes, breathing problems, headache etc.

5. PAPER PRODUCTS
All toilet tissue, hand towels, paper wipes are from renewable sources and
manufactured by environmentally friendly companies.
