MICROBIOLOGY AND HEALTH PROJECTS WIN TOP AWARDS
AT THE ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY REGIONAL SCIENCE AND
ENGINEERING FAIR
An 11th grade microbiology project and a 10th grade medicine-&-health
project won top awards at the Anne Arundel County Regional Science and
Engineering Fair awards ceremony held last night, March 17, 2005. Chris Jenkins, a
junior at South River High School, received the Grand Prize First Place Award for
“No Thanks, I’ll Use My Own Pen.” Danna Thomas, a sophomore at Broadneck
High School, received the Grand Prize Second Place Award for “Are Cell Phones
and Radar Guns Safe?”
Mr. Jenkins and Ms. Thomas will now compete at the Intel International
Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in Phoenix, Arizona in May 2005 for more
than $2 million in awards and scholarships.
More than 204 young scientists and engineers from middle schools and high
schools around the region presented their science research. At last night’s awards
presentation, held at South River High School in Edgewater, MD, awards were
presented for first, second, third, and honorable mention in more than 40 categories.
Another 146 special awards were also presented. Public school students from 11
middle schools and six high schools participated.
A list of first-place winners follows. For additional information, contact
