Classroom Policies
2007-2008 School Year
Welcome back to school! I can’t wait to get started and I anticipate an awesome
year! I am extremely glad to have you in my class; I am sure that you expect me to fill the
year full of learning, fun and success. So that our class can meet the goals we all desire,
we will all have to observe the following policies and procedures. For your convenience,
I have also posted them on the bulletin board in the classroom.
1. Be Ready to Work! There are no excuses for not being prepared! Please
bring appropriate books: literature, grammar, reading, dictionary and/or
notebooks on the corresponding days with a pen so that you are truly
prepared. Keep organized and have a clean work area and classroom.
2. No late work will be received (except for excused absences- See the Student
Handbook). All Homework will be turned in at the beginning of the class
period and collected from the suitable tray. Extra credit will not be given
unless given to the entire class or prearranged with me.
3. Always respect your teacher, fellow classmates, visitors, and yourself! If a
visitor(s) of any nature enters our room, including guest teachers that are
present in my absence, the utmost etiquette is required at all times. This is not
negotiable!
4. Plagiarism will not be tolerated! See Student Handbook.
5. Set yourself up for Success and Enjoy yourself while you are here!
There is no such thing as a stupid question, answer, or opinion, in fact, there is no
such thing as stupid.
In class discussion, there will be no comments that belittle, embarrass, or hurt
anyone’s feelings or self image.
In general, you will be expected to abide by the rules of the Sargent School District
Student/ Parent Handbook.
Tardies
Come in and sit down with little disruption.
Quietly ask your neighbor where the class is at in the lesson.
At the appropriate time, read the assignment board for any missed work.
Confused? Ask Mrs. T at the end of the period or after school.
Absences
Call or ask your neighbor or phone buddy for the assignments that were missed.
Turn in your makeup work with a sticky note stating the day(s) of the absence(s) into the
class tray.
Any further questions set up a “date” with Mrs. T before the due date of the missed
assignments and during appropriate times.

All writing assignments will be accompanied by a Colorado State Standards
Rubric.
Examples of excellent and poor writings/ work have been posted as guidelines for
you.
You will be informed bi-weekly of your progress and grade in the class but I
suggest that you keep record for yourself also refer to the Parent Portal on Sargent

by me.
Grading Procedure
Grades in the class are calculated on a point basis. Assignments may differ in
point value. You may figure your percentage score by dividing your points correct by
the total possible points for the assignment.
To figure your average anytime during the quarter, total your points and divide by
the total points possible.

In addition to the assignments given a point value, I will often give a check in the
gradebook to show that you have participated or have shown an understanding of a
requirement or have performed satisfactorily in class. These checkmarks are added up
at the end of the quarter and you are given a percentage grade that will be averaged
into your grade. Your grade consists of…
40% papers and projects
35% tests and quizzes
15% journals and notes
10% participation
The grading scale used in class is the one in the Student Handbook:
90-100=A; 80-89=B; 70-79=C; 60-69=D; Below 60=F
I UNDERSTAND AND ACCEPT THE RESPONSIBLITIES REQUIRED FOR
THIS CLASS AND I HAVE CAREFULLY READ THE STUDENT/PARENT
HANDBOOK. I UNDERSTAND THAT GRADES ARE EARNED BY
STUDENTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE. I
AGREE TO HELP MAINTAIN AN ORDERLY, PLEASANT, LEARNING
ENVIRONMENT.
