This year’s high priorities are in litter and waste minimisation areas. Litter The School Management Team and Eco-Committee have decided on a litter policy. The Eco-Committee have conducted litter picks within the School ground and in the wider community around the Resource Centre and Winding House Museum. Mr. Davies, Manager of the Resource Centre, has expressed his gratitude. Pupils from the whole School have designed litter posters for the Caerphilly County Council competition and some have been displayed around the School. Waste Minimisation The Committee has purchased green bins for each class room to recycle waste paper. These are emptied when full by members of the Eco-Committee and taken to the School’s paper recycling bin. Each class has a spare tray to collect scrap paper that has not been used on both sides for pupils to use for rough work or for wet play. Posters have been designed to encourage staff and pupils to use both sides of the paper. Recycling Hannah and Chloe contacted Caerphilly CBC and obtained bins for recycling plastic and cans. These have been situated in the School canteen and in the play ground. The School is taking part in the Yellow Woods Challenge where pupils collect Yellow Pages directories and use them to make sculptures prior to them being recycled in Rhymney. Christmas cards were collected and given to the Cystic Fibrosis Charity in Bargoed. The School Grounds The Eco-Committee have fixed bird boxes and tables around the School. These were made by Mr. Perry from wood salvaged from pallets left by the builders.
