Spring 2005
ART OF JAPAN
During spring 2005 classes, students learn about art and life in Japan. This country, with its nearby islands, has
a history of thousands of years through which beautiful works of art have been produced. Children learn about
ancient temple bells, Japanese tea bowls and the prints and paintings of master artists of Japan. They create
their own drawings, paintings and clay sculpture as they respond to the curriculum.
Students in fourth grade and above workshop classes may draw on selected elements of the study of the art of
Japan; however, the basis of their study is developing skills and techniques of art production.
Enroll your child by carefully checking the preferred class or school location on the attached registration form.
A NOTE TO PARENTS:
All classes in the schools are subject to the availability of qualified teachers. This is due to recent state and local
changes in certification for art education. Classes will also need a minimum of 12 students to meet.

university students work together to provide model art classes at the university and in public school locations. A
special focus of the curriculum is the art of the world’s varied cultures and the contributions of major artists.
Children are encouraged to progress at their own pace and to acquire skills appropriate to their developmental
level.
