HOMECOMING BAKE SALE AND AUCTION To: Underwood 8th graders and parents Each year we have a bake sale during homecoming week to raise money for the middle school; it is a tradition for the 8th graders to bring items for the bake sale and auction. The tradition started as a service project for their life skills class, and we will continue with this tradition this year. Part of the funds earned will be donated to the local animal shelters and other charities we select throughout the year; some of the funds are used for homecoming activities, some for bonus activities, and some will be kept for possible use for assemblies, etc. The bake sale will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 30th during the lunch periods. We will continue to sell leftover items on Thursday and Friday, if necessary. The auction will be on Thurs., Oct. 1st; it will take place during 2nd and 3rd hour. We request that you bring an item either for the bake sale or the auction; you do not need to do both but may if you want . I will pass a sign-up sheet around on Fri., Sept. 25th so we have an idea of what we will have. We have a student with peanut and peanut product allergies this year, so we are asking that you label all items that use any peanut products. This will allow us to keep those items separate to prevent any possible problems. Please be aware that some candies, like M&M’s are manufactured in factories with peanuts, and they should also be labeled. Please check the label on any candies and mark the baked goods accordingly. Please have your bake sale items here on Sep.30th, between 7:30 and 8:10 A.M., if possible. Check them in with Miss Kurth in the lunchroom. It would be helpful to have individual items already cut and prepackaged when you bring them. I will have a couple of knives and some baggies available, just in case. Please have auction items here on Oct. 1st between 7:45 and 8:10 A.M. Again, check them in with me in the lunchroom. A limited amount of refrigerator space will be available. We will also need volunteers to help set up the tables from 7:30 – 8:10 on Wed. and to run the bake sale table during the lunch periods on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. A sign-up sheet will be passed around in science class so you may sign-up to work. If you need to prior out of a class to work, please ask the teacher if it will be alright first. If the answer is yes, then get a prior slip filled out. Six to 10 people are needed to set up in the morning; 4 to 6 people will be enough to work during the lunch periods. Different people can work during the two lunch shifts. Packages of chips or candy bars and cartons of pop will not be auctioned off unless they are part of a “basket”. You may sign-up to bring items for theme baskets; you can get a group of friends to go together to purchase items for a theme basket. If you need ideas, see me for help. You may make arrangements to bring the items before school in the morning if you want help putting the basket together.
