Draft Terms of Reference– Michelle Swales SLQ
A draft Terms of Reference (TOR) for the group has been written to state the purpose and
objectives of YPLG. Having a formalised TOR outlines the strategic purpose of the group,
and will provide an advocacy tool for members to provide to their organisations that outlines
the value of their attendance at YPLG events.
Feedback received

The title of the group presents a challenge that it only includes Librarians.
Action – It was proposed that the title of the group will now be known as “Young Peoples
Libraries Group” – this will be sent to the list for approval.

In Purpose and Objectives we need to include an increase of on-line communication.
Either though the list or using the wikispace
Action - Michelle will send link to wiki space to all members to trial and update TOR text.

In Purpose and Objective point 3 - clarify the term-“Distribute or conduct research” to
include support of grant applications and consultation on research and development
of opportunities.
Action - the TOR will be amended and this point will be added to the regular meeting agenda
to discuss supporting opportunities.

Text to be strengthened in point 4 in Purpose and Objectives to include action “Identify and collaborate on opportunities….”
Action - Michelle will amend draft TOR with above points amended. New draft will be
circulated at next meeting
ALIACYSS
Rene Mason presented to the table an opportunity to be a part of the ALIA Children and
Youth services committee. They are currently looking for members to assist with
administration.
Brisbane Digital Hub
Jane Peel presented a demonstration of the types of programs that are delivered through the
BCC digital Hub program. Jane Peel encouraged people to become champions of Coder
Dojo and other programs in their own region. Laney Robinson from Logan Libraries
discussed the programs they are undertaking involving similar programs.
Jane Peel’s presentation can be found via the webpage.
Readers Cup
Sonia Parker facilitated a round table discussion on the Readers Cup with a focus to
encourage other libraries to take it up in their region. The Readers Cup was presented as an
opportunity for libraries to connect with their community and form a network, through an
established format.
Summer Reading
Natasha Pugh announced that the theme for next year will be Adventure. The prizes, images
and posters will be revealed in the next few weeks.
This theme was accompanied by a book map of ideas to assist the programming for each
library.
Feedback was given that the online registration was good but there needed to be sent an
acknowledgement that they had received the registration.
Natasha discussed that she will be doing a mailing list cleanse and update for the
communication channels.
Natasha’s power point presentation can be found via the webpage.
Natasha facilitated a round table discussion on the Summer Reading program across all the
regions.
