Introduction
wave is the Arts Educations Agency for Bournemouth and Poole, formed out of a
partnership between Borough of Poole, Bournemouth Borough Council and Arts
Council South West. wave provides a source of inspiration and creativity between
the arts and education communities in Bournemouth and Poole.
The Cultural Hub
Bournemouth and Poole's Cultural Hub is one of three programmes nationally,
initiated by the Department for Culture Media and Sport, and managed by Arts
Council England in partnership with the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council .
The Cultural Hub is a consortium of cultural organisations and schools working
together to create inspirational learning opportunities for young people.
The aim of the Cultural Hub is to explore a model of delivering a workable offer for
children and young people, at the heart of which is effective partnership working and
joint planning between the cultural and education sectors.
Seeking to explore ways of delivering a cultural offer for children and young people,
Cultural Hubs will use a model where the arts and cultural sector can develop a
deeper level of engagement with schools and young learners, improving the range
and relevance of what they offer to schools.

Job Description
Young People’s Hub Groups
Young People’s Hub Groups currently operate in three secondary schools, with a
fourth secondary school and primary planned to start autumn 2007. The groups
programme, manage and administer cultural activity for their peers, with the
guidance of a mentor.
Activities successfully planned and managed to date include a fashion show,
acoustic music night, sixth form enrichment programme (including yoga, martial arts
and dance), a three day school arts festival, and a theatre trip. Students have also
undertaken a programming trip to Edinburgh Fringe Festival, scouting for work for
Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts. This initiative is planned to be repeated this
summer.
Aim:
To support the young people of the Young People’s Hub Groups to plan and manage
all aspects of an arts and cultural programme/s for their peers.
Person Specification
 Passion for arts education and developing opportunities for young people
 Experience of consulting effectively with public sector bodies, arts organisations,
young people, professional artists and the voluntary sector
 Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously
 Commitment to cultural entitlement
 Knowledge of local arts organisations and artists
 Commitment to equal opportunities
 Creative thinker
 Good organisational skills
 Good oral and written communication skills
 Good IT skills
 Strong interpersonal skills
 Full clean driving licence is desirable but not essential
 Experience of preparing and managing budgets
 Experience of arts administration and marketing
Dates:
July 2007 – end February 2008 (term time only).
Up to 1 day per week –
Regular Tuesday pm at St Peter’s, Southbourne
Regular Tuesday pm at St Edward’s, Poole
Regular Wednesday pm at Corfe Hills, Poole
Up to 1 day per week -
Meetings at new schools to be decided for mutual
convenience
Additional time may be required to support project delivery.
Considerations:
It is essential that the young people themselves are the driving force of all structural,
operational, administrative and programming decisions. Adult intervention is in a
support or mentoring role only.
Parameters:
Each young people’s group aims to:
- Design a minimum of two programmes of cultural activity per year, delivered in or
out of school time, and on or off school premises. Activity may be delivered by
visiting artists/cultural educators and/or young people themselves.
- Aim to programme work that addresses the needs and interests of their peers
through a fair and equal process, including consultation.
- Maintain control and monitor their budgets
Further information:
The successful applicant will be required to complete Young People’s Arts Award
Adviser Training (www.artsaward.org.uk) and support young people through their
award.
Budget:
There is a budget of £1,500 per young peoples group for delivery. Budgetary control
will be maintained by the young people themselves, supported by the mentor. The
groups may apply to the Hub partners for more money for the planning and delivery
of larger projects.
Reporting and management:
Each Young People’s Hub Group will be expected to report monthly (at minimum)
outlining progress and key decisions.
The mentor is expected to liaise regularly with Rob Smith, Arts Education Coordinator, with progress updates.
The mentor is accountable to the Arts Education Co-ordinator who has overall
management of the project.
Fee:
£125 per ½ day for length of contract (on submission of timesheets and invoice).

Interviews will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday 27th June 2007 in
Bournemouth.
Evaluation of bids and interviews will be undertaken by:
