PURPOSE OF JOB
To carry out multi-skilled technical tasks in support of the Field Operations
program.
MAIN ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Field Operations – Responsible for carrying out technical tasks in
support to the Field Operations.
 Under the direction of the Technical Manager or Senior Technician
carry out assigned technical tasks within competency (see Attachment
A for Competency Framework);
 Under the direction of the Technical Manager / Senior Technician carry
out any task within capabilities i.e. husbandry, minor building
maintenance;
 Adhere to stated policies and procedures relating to health, safety, and
environmental and quality management;
 Complete all required reports accurately and in a timely manner;
 Expected to work with little or no immediate supervision;
 Carry out risk assessments for all work to be carried out within their
jurisdiction as required;
 Accountable for the stores issued for the execution of assigned tasks;
 Reports and returns to be entered directly into the appropriate MMIS
system.
2. People Management
 Required to train and oversee the work of other staff and contractors
as required;
 Mentoring of new team members or apprentices as appropriate.
3. Asset Management - Participate as part of the Field Delivery Team
in the formulation and delivery of the Asset Management
programme
 Assist the Technical Manager/Senior Technician in identifying
improvements in maintenance regimes and potential improvement
projects;

 Ensure delivery of appropriate feedback covering work being carried
out;
 To identify, examine and report the cause for degradation in
performance or failure of Aids to Navigation, associated structures,
equipment and systems, depot plant, machinery, tools and test
equipment. To initiate actions required correcting and preventing such
degradation or failure;
 To cooperate with the Technical Manager in providing a high priority
response to failures to Aids to Navigation which in the view of
management cause a serious threat to mariners.
SCOPE
 Member of the Field Operations team reporting to the Technical Manager
with project reporting to the Senior Technician;
 Geographical location – A national resource based in either Swansea,
Harwich, St Just but flexible to work anywhere within the TH area of
operations;
 The duties will involve working in confined spaces and wearing
appropriate personal protective equipment including breathing apparatus;
 Extensive travel will be required within the TH area of jurisdiction, some
of which may be outside of normal hours and which may involve extended
periods away, including on remote stations. Appropriate compensation
will be payable;
 The duties include the need to form part of an on call roster to support
the service’s needs out of hours;
 The duties will involve working with helicopters, boats and rough ground,
suitable fitness levels are to be maintained to enable the duties to be
carried out;
 Supervise the activities of staff assigned by the Technical Manager or
Senior Technician.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
These will form a key part of your Technical Skills within the
Performance Management process
 BTEC Level 3 in an appropriate electrical discipline and a BTEC Level 3 in a
second appropriate technical discipline;
 An appropriate level of practical training as provided by a craft apprentice;
 A good level of experience in a technical maintenance/installation role;
 Qualified to IEE 17th Edition Regulations;
 Qualified IEE Inspector & Test of Electrical Installations;
 IEE Portable Appliance Testing qualified;
 Well-developed IT skills.

SITE SUPERVISOR DUTIES
The below duties will be carried out in addition to those outlined in the Technician Job
Description and will be to cover specific work packages and projects when a Senior
Technician is not on site.
The purpose of this role will be to provide on site supervision, coordination, leadership and
a Health and Safety focal point to multidisciplined internal teams and external contractors
during project installations and major maintenance work. The role will be operational on
Field Operational work which exceeds 5 days.
Only Technicians who are on or above competency level C of the framework and who have
First Aid, VHF and Site Supervision training, will be appointed to undertake these duties on
an occasional basis. The Technical Manager will ensure all appropriately experienced and
trained Technicians are rotated through the role.
The nominated Technician will be paid at the Senior Technician rate for the period of time
spent as Site Supervisor.
1. Responsible for supervising technicians, organising their work and carrying out
technical tasks in support of the Team.
 Assist the Technical Manager/Installation Supervisor by providing first line supervision of
the teams assigned on a project basis;
 Within area of responsibility, manage health, safety, environmental and quality
management procedures, including relevant emergency procedures, ensuring capability of
staff and contractors, in accordance with Trinity House health, safety and environmental
and quality management policy and relevant laws;
 Ensure Dangerous Goods paperwork and packing for transportation is in order;
 Maintain the site Waste Management Plan;
2. People Management - Responsible for leading and supervising teams of skilled, trained
and resourced staff, for the efficient and effective delivery of Service and commercial
field work
 Under the direction of the Technical Manager/Installation Supervisor supervise the
technical work of team members as required;
 Ensure individuals on site work within the Working Time Directive requirements.
3. Health And Safety Management – Responsible for the on site management of Health and
Safety, ensuring a positive health and safety culture is maintained
 To be the “on site” contact for safety matters.
 Produce risk assessments and method statements as required.
 Ensure all site attendees are briefed with a safety induction and relevant RAMS.
 Provide a daily diary sheet of work completed
 Ensure safe systems of work are followed and stop any work that in their opinion may
cause serious injury or damage.
 To perform statutory and site inspections such as, first aid boxes, fire extinguishers,
scaffolding, excavations, machinery guarding and issue permits to work as required.

Should be trained in First Aid (or ensure first aid members on site).
Ensure fire safety on site (i.e fire doors are kept shut etc) and maintain escape routes.
To ensure good station “housekeeping”, and the prompt, safe movement of waste and
dangerous goods.
