Scientists Profile: Name: Titilayo Oyelola FAKEYE Tel: 234(0)8052234484 E-mail: titifakeye@yahoo.com, to.fakeye@mail.ui.edu.ng; titifakeye@gmail.com; titilayo.fakeye@yahoo.com Research Interests: Drug/herb utilization, Drug/herb interactions, Medicine-use related problems among chronically ill patients with emphasis on herb use and related issues Current research focus: My research focus includes drug utilisation among different populations, attitude of patients to use of herbal agents, and tendency to co-administer conventional and herbal medicines. Serious need to evaluate and note herb use when a patient’s drug medication history is taken, with proper counseling of patients using herbs has been unearthed. Ongoing studies involve evaluating the mechanism of interactions of conventional prescribed medications with commonly used herbal medicines (especially in chronic diseases) with emphasis on the ones suspected to be due to activity of cytochrome P450 isozymes. Impact of pharmacist’s intervention on adherence among patients with chronic diseases are also being studied. On-going and future studies will focus on the effect of pharmacist-intervention in different disease states especially chronic diseases such as hypertension, asthma and anxiety/panic disorders.
