Urine Collection

Cats



Wash and thoroughly rinse a litter box for use in urine collection. It is important to remove all traces of detergent from the box.



Place your cat in an enclosed area such as a bathroom or small bedroom with the empty litter box. You may also choose to purchase NOSORB from us which is a nonabsorbable litter replacement.



Once your pet has urinated in the box, pour the urine into a clean plastic container (e.g. butter/margarine container or storage container), or if you are using NOSORB, you can pour the urine sample into the empty NOSORB container.



Place the sample in the refrigerator right away. The urine can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 12 hours.



Bring the sample to us for analysis within the 12-hour timeframe.

Additional NOSORB information:

If for some reason you are unable to successfully transfer a urine sample to a container and need to obtain another sample from the same animal, you may rinse the NOSORB granules with water (best done by using a colander lined with paper towels), wait for them to dry, and place them back into the empty litter pan. This is only acceptable if done within a short window of time - in other words, do not save previously used NOSORB for future use.

Dogs



Take your dog outside on a short leash and catch his/her urine using a clean plastic container (e.g. butter/margarine container or storage container). Two people make the process easier!



The first urine of the day is preferred, and a mid-stream catch is best.



Place the sample in the refrigerator right away. The urine can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 12 hours.



Bring the sample to us for analysis within the 12-hour timeframe.
