Summer Reading 2012 - Night
Planning for the Collaborative Summer Library Program has already
started for 2012. Your help is needed!!!
The theme is “Night” and the slogan for children is Dream Big – READ!
The teen slogan is Own the Night.
The manual is developed by members of the Collaborative which
includes all public librarians in Pennsylvania. See the messages below
on how to share your thoughts, stories, games, songs, puzzles, and
other concepts and ideas etc. to make the 2012 programs useful and
enjoyable for everyone. Send any suggestions to Patti Sinclair
(contact information below) or send to your state representative to the

Call for Ideas by December 1, 2010
Here are our working chapter titles with program ideas that have been suggested
for the 2012 Dream Big—READ! manual. “Night” is the broad concept. If you have
other ideas, I’d love to hear about them.
I am especially interested in your ideas for:
 School visits and other ways of promoting the program in your community—
a skit or puppet show is always welcome!
 Setting the Scene: library decorations, bulletin boards, props, etc.
 Family literacy programs
 Original puppet plays esp. for one or two puppeteers
 Outreach Ideas for underserved groups


aspirations for oneself or others, imagination

relaxation (Yoga for kids)
Chapter 5 Night Owls
o Nocturnal animals--owls, moths, fireflies, etc., night workers, the city
or country at night, personal safety at night (for Int), jazz

o Stargazing, space exploration, stories and legends about the sun,
moon stars, night adventures from history-Kate Shelley, Underground

program manual, “Own the Night.” Please send ideas (or expand on those below) by Dec.
