Ms. Love Name: Period: 1 2 3 4 6 English 10 Research Project Assignment: Teen Issues and Obstacles Teens today are faced with a gamut of obstacles and issues that may potentially effect their lives, either positively and/or negatively. However, one way to deal with the countless issues that plague teens is to become informed by the obstacles and issues that plague their generation. The information gained could potentially help a teen deal with an issue they are currently facing and/or avoid an unnecessary bump in the road because they were already forewarned with how to deal with the issue. Remember knowledge is power. Therefore, choose from the topics listed below and take a stance on your chosen topic. There are a variety of ways that you may write your paper, so decide the method that will prove most effective for your topic. You may come up with a new topic that is not listed, but it must be approved first. You will write a 800 – 1000 word research paper that details your topic, next quarter. The essay and research will be completed in chunks; however the entire project is worth 620 points. The following topics have already been approved: Social Media’s affect on teens and/or society Cell phones in school Bullying Teen obesity Violent Video Games Teen Pregnancy Immigration Education Teen Driving (i.e. texting while driving, teen accidents, etc.) Technology Teen Dropouts Suicide Drug Use School Dress Code These are only suggestions and other topics may be considered with approval This research project will be completed in a number of steps: 1. Choose your topic. Remember to choose a topic you are passionate about so that the paper is interesting. 2. Narrow your topic with the “Narrowing Your Topic” worksheet. Identify a manageable approach to your topic so that you are able to say something of significance on your topic and avoid a paper filled with generalities. 3. Exploration and Research Section: Research your chosen topic, and find a minimum of six (6) reliable, valid sources of information on your topic. Such sources can be found using Library Research Databases, the public library (books, magazines, and newspapers), and also the Internet. 4. Complete the BLUE Research Sources Packet for ALL 6 sources. 5. Annotated sources. All six sources must be annotated, using the analysis protocol. 6. Now that all sources are final, alphabetize your sources and create your MLA formatted Works Cited page. See the class website for examples. Use easybib.com and/or the Purdue Owl to help you format your Works Cited page. 8. Submit your MLA formatted Annotated Bibliography to Tii.com by December 2 @ 11:59 pm.
