Northern Ballet January 2011 NORTHERN BALLET JOB DESCRIPTION DATE Pastoral Assistant 1. DEPARTMENT Northern Ballet Academy 2. RESPONSIBLE TO Academy Manager 3. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB To provide pastoral care for the students following training programmes at Northern Ballet during class times, and provide some administrative support to the Academy Manager throughout the year. 4. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBLITIES 5. To look after the young people taking Northern Ballet Academy dance classes every week during evenings and Saturdays and during any intensive courses or trips both on and off site. This includes registering students, taking them to and from the changing rooms and to the studios and making sure they are picked up at the end of the evening. Provide Academy students with general support in accordance with Northern Ballet’s Child Protection Policy. To act as the designated responsible adult during evening classes and to look after any injured, upset or poorly students. To act as a point of contact during the evenings for parents and young people who take part in evening classes and facilitate communication with them and the full-time office and teaching staff. To co-ordinate the pastoral team volunteers during the evenings and on Saturdays. To provide administrative support to the Academy Manager by keeping all the open class records up to date, monitoring evaluation forms, corresponding with new students and updating full time office team of class sizes and attendance. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES At all times carry out duties and responsibilities with regard to Northern Ballet Theatre’s Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and Child Protection policies. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA Experience of working with children Excellent organisational skills Ability to work as part of a team A professional approach to work and the working environment Energy and confidence Ability to use own initiative Computer Literate: Microsoft Office including Word, Access, Excel and Outlook Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines Passion and enthusiasm for the arts DESIRABLE CRITERIA Relevant experience of a similar role in an arts setting or educational setting. 1 Northern Ballet January 2011 Knowledge and understanding of the aims of arts, dance education and training.
