Northern Ballet JOB DESCRIPTION: Communications Assistant DEPARTMENT: Communications RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Marketing The Communications Department aims to enhance the reputation, raise the profile of Northern Ballet and support the vision of Northern Ballet as a powerhouse for inventive dance. Main purpose of job: To support the communications department in the effective delivery of the Marketing campaigns across all areas of Northern Ballet’s work, with an emphasis on the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre. Skills and experience: A demonstrable commitment to a career in Marketing, ideally in an arts environment, strong IT, administrative and written and oral communication skills and an interest in the arts. Person Specification: You will be an enthusiastic team player who would enjoy supporting and contributing to projects and activities across the Communications department. You will enjoy working in a busy office environment and be an organised and efficient multi-tasker. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: In consultation with the Head of Marketing: To contribute to the development and implementation of Northern Ballet’s Communications strategy To implement the campaigns for performances in the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre at Northern Ballet; to raise the profile and develop new audiences for the theatre To support communications for Northern Ballet’s national tour, Short Ballets for Small people tour, its headquarters, Learning, Academy and Fundraising activities, leading on projects when appropriate To support the production of printed materials, working with printers and designers to manage specific projects such as the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre brochure from design brief to completion To ensure that theatreleeds.com is up to date and accurate at all times, to generate content for the site and to regularly update the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre’s Social Media accounts To work with the Communications team on monitoring and evaluating all activity and producing reports as appropriate To contribute to the Communications departments written material including: the website, the monthly e-newsletter, the internal newsletter, web and social media activities, press releases, press packs, marketing material and corporate publications To occasionally take over-flow Box Office calls for the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre, during busy booking periods To arrange the external distribution of all print as appropriate, and to ensure internal print displays are well maintained To work with the Communications Manager: Web & Social Media on the upkeep of northernballet.com, to generate content for the site, write and upload blogs and update Northern Ballet’s Social Media accounts To undertake any duties reasonably required for the successful delivery of Northern Ballet’s Communications strategy ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES To support Internal Communications at Northern Ballet To support Audience Development initiatives To contribute to the Communications departments activities To contribute to the effective implementation of Northern Ballet’s brand and to champion the brand To contribute to Company-wide activity as appropriate To pursue a programme of Continuing Professional Development to keep informed of new trends and developments in communications, dance and the arts To act as an ambassador for the Communications Department and for Northern ballet as a whole. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA A demonstrable commitment to a career in Marketing, ideally in an arts environment Good written and oral communication skills Good IT and administrative skills Good organisational skills Ability to work in a busy office environment Ability to juggle a range of tasks at one time Ability to work in a team and on your own initiative A professional approach to work and the working environment An interest in the arts An understanding of Social Media and an interest in digital marketing DESIRABLE CRITERIA Experience of working in Marketing, Administration or Media and PR Box Office experience A relevant arts or marketing qualification Salary: £15,000 per annum
