The course allows students to achieve comprehension of medical vocabulary appropriate to medical procedures, human anatomy and physiology, and pathophysiology. General Requirements: This course is recommended for students in Grades 9-12. Text: Introduction to Medical Terminology, Ehrlich & Schroeder; Delmar Learning; 2004 Principles of Health Science- The Principles of Health Science provides an overview of the therapeutic, diagnostic, health informatics, support services, and biotechnology research and development systems of the health care industry. General Requirements: This course is recommended for students in Grades 9-11. Text: Diversified Health Occupations, Simmers; Delmar Learning; 2004 Health Science- The Health Science course is designed to provide for the development of advanced knowledge and skills related to a wide variety of health careers. Students will have hands-on experiences for continued knowledge and skill development. The course may be taught by different methodologies such as clinical rotation and career preparation learning. Recommended prerequisites: Principles of Health Science and Biology Grading: 70% Major (Exams/Tests/Projects/Papers) 20% Daily (quizzes/Labs/In-Class Assignments) 10% Minor (In-class Assignments/Class Participation) Late Policy: As per district/campus policy. If a student misses any assignments, tests, etc., IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE THE ASSIGNMENT/TEST/ETC IS MADE UP. Materials Needed: Pen/Pencil Paper/Spiral Notebook 3 x 5 Note Cards YOUR BRAIN!!!! Classroom Guidelines: 1. Be in your seat and working on the assigned bell ringer activity when the tardy bell rings. 2. Bring all books/materials to class AND take them with you when you leave. 3. Follow directions the first time they are given. 4. Treat each person in this room with respect and dignity. 5. Follow ALL procedures and policies as outlined in the ORHS and CISD handbooks. 6. Dress appropriately for field trips, shadowing etc. 7. NO WHINING!!!! Classroom Procedures: 1. When entering the room; please enter quietly and have a seat, prepare for class and get started on bell ringer. 2. If you are tardy; enter quietly and take your seat and take out your materials. 3. When turning in assignments, pass them forward and then to the right. 4. Paper heading-make sure you legibly write your name, name of class and period number. 5. What do I do next activities- work on unfinished assignments; read a book; work on weekly current event, review vocabulary words, etc. 6. During classroom discussions please participate. I want to hear what you have to say. Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion. One person speaks at a time. 7. Ask permission to move around the room. Do not ask during classroom discussion unless it’s an emergency. 8. Restroom breaks are to be taken between classes, however if you need to use the restroom, raise your hand and ask to go. 9. The teacher dismisses you, NOT the bell. Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you. 10. Failure to follow guidelines/procedures will result in: 1st-Warning and documentation 2nd-Action plan, parental contact and/or after school detention 3rd-Disciplinary referral 11.
