Syllabus: Fashion Design and Advanced Fashion Design Mrs. Lammers Course Meeting Times: 3rd Period Red Day and 7th Period Green Day Room 138 Office Hours: 2:35 PM– 3:00 PM Contact Information: alammers@conroeisd.net 936.709.1200 Course Description Careers in fashion span all aspects of the textile and apparel industries. Within this context, in addition to developing technical knowledge and skills needed for success in the Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications career cluster, students will be expected to develop an understanding of fashion and the textile and apparel industries. Students enrolled in this course will be expected to: Develop an understanding of the fashion, textile and apparel industries Apply academic knowledge and skills in fashion textile and apparel projects Learn and apply a variety of procedures as related to the fashion industry Design apparel products using principles of effective design Analyze the nature and scope of all areas of the fashion industry Apply knowledge of fibers, fabrics and design when evaluating and designing textile products Demonstrate effective repair, alteration, and construction techniques of apparel. Classroom Procedures RESPECT: The Woodlands High School endorses a published respect policy for all students and teachers. Each person is expected to follow this policy Students are expected to bring paper, writing utensils and a notebook to class every day. Lessons and activities are designed to keep students actively engaged in the process of learning and students should be prepared to complete their assignments each day. All safety procedures will be followed. No food or soft drinks are to be brought into the classroom. Students will be in the classroom when the tardy bell rings Students will leave the classroom clean and orderly. All TWHS policies and dress code will be enforced. This includes the policy regarding the use of cell phones and all electronic listening devises. Please refer to TWHS student handbook to be familiar with the policies. Grading Policy Students will be evaluated by a variety of methods including daily work, class participation, projects and tests. Daily work counts 20%, quizzes count 25%, and major grades count 55%. In addition, the semester exam and final exam count 15% of the overall grade. Make-Up Work/Due Dates Make-Up Work/Due Dates-Students are responsible for making up any work missed due to an absence. They will have one day for each day absent to complete the work and turn it in without penalty. It is the responsibility of the student to ask the instructor for missed assignments. Late Assignments-Students who turn in assignments late will be assessed a grade based on the following guidelines: 1 class day late90%, 2 class days late- 80%, 3 class days late 70% *** Late work not turned in by 2 calendar days before the end of a 3 week grading period will receive a grade of “0” unless the student has been absent and is entitled to additional time beyond the grading period to complete the work. In this instance, a student would receive an Incomplete on the progress report/report card and the grade would be adjusted once the assignment is turned in. Cheating Policy Students copying work from others, providing work to others, sharing information on a test or individual assignment, and failing to cite or give credit to another author in their written reports will automatically receive a “0” on that assignment and a referral to the grade level office. (Please see TWHS student handbook) Conroe ISD offers career and Technical education programs in cosmetology, agrisciences, building trades, auto mechanics, computer technology, computer repair, marketing, business, criminal justice, and life sciences. Admission to these programs is based on interest in subject, required prerequisites, and teacher referral. This includes fabric, thread, zippers, lace, fiber fill, elastic, etc… The cost of materials may be paid the first week of class by cash or check made out to TWHS or online through the TWHS web store.
