Principles of Architecture and Construction

COURSE DESCRIPTION
In Principles of Architecture and Construction,
students will be provided with an overview to
the various fields of Architecture, interior
design, construction science, and construction
technology. Students will use self-knowledge,
educational and career information to set and
achieve realistic career and educational goals.


PREREQUISITES

This course is recommended for students in
Grades 9-12.



COURSE OUTCOMES
In completing this course, you will:
 Read
technical
drawings
and
documents to plan a project.
 Read and understand industry-specific
terminology.
 Study regulations and code to identify
those applicable to the local area.
Locate and implement regulations and codes
applicable to tasks and projects.
Use industry-specific verbal and visual skills to
accomplish effective communication.
Interpret blueprints to assist with project planning.
Recognize information on blueprints and
drawings.
Recognize different classifications of drawings.
Interpret and use drawing dimensions.
Perform mathematical operations to complete
tasks such as estimating materials and supplies.
Write Reports and documents such as estimated,
permits, memos, and technical reports.
Use available resources and materials effectively
to complete a project or resolve a problem.
Provide a project update to keep stakeholders up
to date.
Use technology tools specific to architecture and
construction to access, manage, integrate, and
create information.
Plan, organize, schedule, and manage a project or
job to optimize workflow sequence.
Establish project goals in order to meet project
specifications and deadlines.
Apply industry standards and practices in order to
incorporate quality into projects.
Practice safety rules and regulations.
Use and maintain appropriate tools, machines and
equipment to accomplish project goals.

Because there is no secure storage location for
books and supplies in the lab, students must
bring their supplies to class everyday. Any
items left in the lab will be turned over the
"Lost and Found" in the bookroom.

Grades are based on:
Daily Work

(Chapter assignments, worksheets, and all assignments
completed in one day)

ASSIGNMENTS
ATTENDANCE EXPECTATIONS
A student will be given the opportunity to
make up work missed. It is the responsibility
of the student to request and complete any
assignments or tests missed because of the
absence.
Students who miss class for an approved
school activity are to notify the teacher in
advance concerning the possibility of
completing the tests or assignments before the
class is missed.
All assignments/projects will be turned in at the end of
the class period in which they are due. Assignments are
not turned in early, but are collected the day they are due.



Daily work that is assigned as homework will not
be accepted late for full credit. Homework may
be accepted late for a maximum grade of 50% by
the next class meeting.
Major long term assignments will be accepted late
for a 10% penalty per school day for a maximum
of five school days.
Remediation and re-assessment activity will be
provided when the grade falls below a 75 on a
major grade. A maximum value of 75 will be
received on the assessment. A minimum of one
re-assessment per nine weeks will be assigned.
Late work will not be accepted after Wednesday on
the week ending the grading period.

Plagiarism / Cheating Policy
If you are caught cheating, copying or
plagiarism everyone involved will receive an
automatic grade of zero for that
assignment/test, no exceptions.


Academic Dishonesty (cheating)


1st Offense Grade of zero, SDH (4 hours)
2nd Grade of zero, SDH (4 hours)
3rd Grade of zero, 3 days SAC

Lab Rules and Regulations













Food and drinks are not permitted.
No student will be excused from arriving
late to class without a pass.
All students must be in their assigned seat
when the tardy bell rings.
Students must remain in their assigned
seat at all times unless authorized by the
teacher.
No talking in class unless it pertains to
assignment.
Profanity or Vulgarity of any kind will not
be tolerated.
All assignments must be turned in on time
to the teacher.
No student will be allowed to leave class
to go to their locker or office after class
has begun.
Cheating and/or Plagiarism will not be
tolerated.
Misuse or Destruction of Equipment or
Supplies will result in disciplinary action.
Copying or installing of programs will
result in disciplinary action.
Deleting, renaming, moving, or changing
system files will result in disciplinary
action.
Unauthorized duplication or use of
licensed software is not permitted.
Assignments that display obscenities, advertise or
promote alcoholic beverages, narcotics, tobacco, or
other prohibited substances are not permitted.
Cell Phones must be turned off and out of view.
MP3 players, Radios, or CD Players are not permitted
in class.
Sleeping in class will result in disciplinary action.
No game playing (this includes cards, handheld
electronic games, computer games, and games on
calculators).
No Internet use unless it pertains to your assignment.
Conroe Independent School District is not responsible for
damage to personal equipment due to viruses.
STUDENT SUCCESS
Your success in this class is dependent on the time that
you put into it and your skills. The skills that I feel are
necessary to achieve success in this class are:
