This week, we will continue the novel, The Witch of Blackbird Pond. As we finish ch. 4 this week, students will take an assessment over chapters 1-4. This will be open-book. We will continue adjectives and answering constructed responses using details for support. Diagnostic 1 (quarterly assessment) will be taken on Wednesday. There will be a quiz on Tuesday (G1) and Wednesday (B4) over operations and solving equations with integers. For the rest of this unit students will work with rational numbers. Students will be able to convert between fractions and decimals and determine whether a decimal is terminating or repeating. Unit objectives are: read classic and contemporary mysteries then compare and contrast the two; analyze characters; collaborate with a group to compose, organize, and revise; and use effective rate, volume, pitch, and tone for the audience and setting. They will work at their own pace and track their own progress in class through a series of 6 lessons. What they need in their notebooks has been discussed with them and posted in the gym on the board. Any student who lost their notes needs to handwrite them before the end of next week. In Physical Education class the students will continue demonstrating fitness abilities. In Coach Sears’ class the students are discussing positions on a soccer field and goaltending. They will be tested over counting, correct pitches, tapping their toe, posture, and hand position. Please continue to encourage your child to practice. Our Meyer Music Step-Up night is scheduled for October 22nd from 5:30-6:30 in the band room. Students may upgrade their instrument if they are renting through Meyer Music at this time. Please make plans to attend! 7th/8th Choir Students are preparing music for the Fall Concert. This concert will be held on Tuesday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the East Gym.
