Counselor’s Corner: Due to schedule changes, Student Council speeches will now take place Thursday, September 15
during seminar. We will be offering various support groups to students at LCC-1 Middle School. Students who have
common concerns will meet with the counselor in a small group format on a weekly basis. Potential groups include Grief
Group, School Success Group, Changing Families Group and Friendship Group. Other groups may arise as needed. If
you feel that your child would benefit from participating in a small group, please contact Mrs. Hopkins.

Food Science
This week in Food Science students will be working with bananas and biscuits as they discover the affect of enzymatic
browning and how different types of flour affect the taste, texture, and color of biscuits. We will also be taste testing
unripe and ripe bananas to discover how starch changes the flavor of bananas. Thanks, Mrs. Barnes and Mrs. Goodman

FACS
This week in 8th grade FACS we will begin our unit on Foods and Nutrition. We will devote part of next week reviewing
safety and sanitation guidelines before entering the kitchen to cook. Students should remember that they must pass the
safety and sanitation quiz with a 100% before being allowed in the kitchen. Re-take quizzes can be scheduled before/after

Social Studies - Mr. Stickel
Students will be learning about the movement of Europeans into the Americas and the effect it had on Native Americans
and the development of the Americas. The 8th grade students are doing a very good job in class and will have had our first
test by the time this glimpse reaches you this week. If you have an opportunity to ask your student how they did on their
chapter one test that would be outstanding at this point that test will account for nearly half their grade.

Math – Ms. Lettau – 7th/8th grade – Students will finish up reading and making graphs. If you have questions,

Algebra I: Next week, students will learn to solve equations in terms of a variable and solve equations with absolute
values. G3 will take a quiz over lessons 1-1 through 1-7 on Friday.
Pre-Algebra: Next week, we will complete our unit on rational numbers. The chapter 1 test will be on Wednesday for
G5. Blue classes will review chapter 1 and take the test the week of September 19.

Science: We will be wrapping up the inquiry unit by looking at lab safety then completing a lab so the students can apply
what we have been covering the last few weeks. Students will have a day of review before the test which will be the week

8th Grade Art
The students in this class have completed their still life compositions and will now be writing artist’s statements to
describe the artwork and the process they used to create their work. They will be guided with this statement to handwrite
the first draft and then use computers to key the final draft that will be displayed with their artwork. Their projects will be
on display next week in the middle school hallways.
7th and 8th grade Graphics I
Students in this class will be editing photos using an online photo editing program at www.picnik.com. They will use
photos from school events that were taken by student photographers at sporting events and during school hour activities.
These photos will then be used in projects and possibly the school yearbook.

7th-8th Health/Physical Education:
The students will be able to recall information about health and wellness. They will TEST on Monday and Tuesday. The
student will also be able to explain why the body needs nutritious food, discuss what influences their food choices, and
differentiate between hunger and appetite. In physical education class the student will be able to name the positions on a
football team and what each positions role is.

7th and 8th grade RISE: Students are taking a pre-test to see how much background knowledge they have about the
history of the Middle Ages. This is not for a grade. They should have ½ of their literature book read by class on Tuesday.

Vocal students continue to demonstrate quarter, half, dotted half, and whole notes in sight singing as well as repetition and
