QEP Team Meeting Minutes 4/6/2010 Attended (via SPOC): Gail Lancaster, Maggie Tymms, Karen Hesting, Janice Thiel Topics: I) II) Assessment A) The Educational Oversight Group will meet on Thursday, April 8, 10-11:30 a.m., EpiCenter 1-324. Janice will present a 15-minute Critical Thinking Subcommittee update, using the Gateway Website, including revisiting the three recommendations (Gateway Website, CT assessments, and CCSSE). Combine QEC and CT Subcommittee for next meeting on Friday, September 17, 1:00-3:00 p.m. B) Assessment Rubric for Critical Thinking (ARC) 1) Jesse met with the Ethics faculty on 3/26/2010. Jesse and Janice need to work on logistics. 2) An ARC Scoring Workshop is scheduled for Friday, November 12, 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., EpiCenter. Maggie and Jesse will facilitate. Will student ARC assignments be completed/ready in time for workshop? 3) Maggie and Jesse will conduct an ARC Scenario Writing workshop at the Faculty Champion Meeting on Friday, May 21. 4) Nursing has administered their ARC scenario and held a scoring event. Janice has downloaded student assignments. Follow-up? 5) It is desired that any revisions to the ARC happen before the ARC Scenario Writing Workshop scheduled for Friday, May 21. Gail will send out her revised copy, and Maggie will discuss with Jesse. C) Critical Thinking Assessment Test (CAT) 1) Anne Cooper delivered a thank you letter to the Math Department on 3/26/10 during the discipline meeting. 2) Math faculty proposal to FGO (see proposal). 3) CAT Scoring Workshop (a) Friday, April 23, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., EpiCenter, 1-324. (b) An invitation has been sent to 17 (3 declined; 4 accepted so far). Janice will invite math faculty who administered the CAT and their Dean Sharon Griggs. (c) 121 completed tests. (d) New CAT Overview CD and CAT Training Manuals received. (e) Maggie will facilitate; Jesse will provide back-up. (f) Janice will arrange continental breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Suggestions D) Meeting with Gen Ed Deans, Kay Burniston, and Anne Cooper was held on 3/15/2010 to emphasize continued effort on QEP. Professional Development A) Milton Cox from Miami University will present two workshops at the Seminole Campus Conference Center: 1) April 14, 1:00-3:30 p.m. – An Introduction to Faculty Learning Communities: Utilizing FLCs to Solve Problems and Seize Opportunities (70 registered to attend) 2) April 15, 1:00-3:30 p.m. – Strategies, Practices, and Evidence to Encourage and Facilitate Active-Learner-Centered Teaching (69 registered to attend) B) The following still need to be contacted about their willingness, availability, etc.: 1) Richard Paul – Foundation for Critical Thinking (questioning to promote critical thinking) 2) Anthony Nappi & Michael Repici – SPC (student engagement/collaborative learning) C) Critical Thinking Institutes 1) Spring Critical Thinking Institute (Narrowing the Gulf) (a) Held 3/18-19/2010 (b) Janice sent an evaluation to the participants from SPC. 35 responded (see results). (c) Valerie Carter and others 4/1/2010 Critical Thinking Resources A) Gateway Website 1) Janice followed-up with Faith Ocasio about repairing the search feature, and is still awaiting a response. 2) Donna will follow-up with consolidating and organizing the listing of library resources: books, journal articles, Web sites, ebooks, and videos, and meet again with Janice at a later date. B) RLO’s 1) Karen will conduct an RLO Workshop at the Faculty Champion Meeting scheduled for Friday, June 11. C) Instructional Portfolios 1) Janice is awaiting a response from an email sent to Christy Powers requesting a meeting. 2) Janice teleconferenced with Bonnie Jefferis on 3/22/2010. 3) Janice met with Holly Hoopes on 3/23/2010. Business Technologies’ Instructional Portfolio complete. D) Critical Thinking Resource Centers 1) QEP has purchased institution-wide access to the “Journal on Excellence in College Teaching” to be accessed through the Library databases.
