QEP Team Meeting Minutes 2/2/2010 Attended (via SPOC): Gail Lancaster, Maggie Tymms, Karen Hesting, Janice Thiel Topics: I) Assessment A) The Educational Oversight Group will meet on Thursday, April 8, 10-11:30 a.m., EpiCenter 1-324. Maggie will find out if the Critical Thinking Subcommittee should meet beforehand in order to report to Ed. Oversight. B) Assessment Rubric for Critical Thinking (ARC) 1) Jesse Coraggio completed the report from the scoring workshop held on 11/20/09. Maggie shared the report at the ART Retreat on 1/29/10. 2) Janice and Jesse met with Jane Till on 1/25/10 to discuss collecting samples of students work from the Ethics ARC assignment. Jane relayed concerns from faculty regarding scoring/grading, which were relieved when the concept of the ARC Scoring Workshop was clarified. Jesse will meet with the Ethics faculty on Friday, March 26, 2010. 3) An ARC Scoring Workshop is scheduled for Friday, November 12, 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., EpiCenter. Maggie will mention the need for a facilitator to Jesse, and Janice will follow-up with Kay Burniston. 4) ARC Scenario-Writing workshop at the Faculty Champion Meeting Friday, May 28? Maggie will discuss this with Jesse. 5) Nursing has administered their ARC scenario and held a scoring event. Janice has downloaded student assignments. Follow-up? 6) Gail will begin a process to revise the ARC. Janice will get Gail a copy of the Ethics ARC. C) Critical Thinking Assessment Test (CAT) 1) Janice has met with all but one instructor to drop off the tests, to review the directions for administering the CAT, and to answer any questions they may have. Janice will administer the CAT to the remaining instructor’s class on February 9. 2) Instructors will administer the CAT during the month of February, and Janice will follow-up to pick up the completed tests. 3) A CAT Scoring Workshop is scheduled for Friday, April 23, 8:00 a.m.5:00 p.m., EpiCenter, 1-324. Plans are in the works to have Milton Cox from Miami University present in the spring. B) Researched ideas were discussed at the Faculty Champion Meeting held on 12/11/09. E) Academic Roundtables 1) Janice met with Phil Nicotera on 1/15/10 who expressed concern about two programs having difficulty identifying a Faculty Champion – Human Services and Medical Laboratory Technology – because those programs do not have any full-time faculty. Subsequent discussion with Kay Burniston and Gail has concluded that an exception for these two programs will be allowed so that their academic leads, who also teach for the program, will serve as Faculty Champions. 2) Janice met with Nerina Stepanovsky and EMS faculty on 1/19/10 to discuss the critical thinking initiative and the selection of a Faculty Champion. 3) Janice met with Respiratory Care, Physical Therapist Assistant, and Funeral Services faculty on 1/20/10 to discuss the critical thinking initiative and the selection of a Faculty Champion. Critical Thinking Resources A) Gateway Website 1) Janice followed-up with Faith Ocasio about repairing the search feature, and is still awaiting a response. 2) Donna continues to work on consolidating and organizing the listing of library resources: books, journal articles, Web sites, ebooks, and videos. B) RLO’s 1) RLO Workshop for 2010 Faculty Champions Friday, June 11?
