Topics:
I)
Assessment
A) The Educational Oversight Group will meet on Thursday, April 8, 10-11:30
a.m., EpiCenter 1-324. Maggie will find out if the Critical Thinking
Subcommittee should meet beforehand in order to report to Ed. Oversight.
B) Assessment Rubric for Critical Thinking (ARC)
1) Jesse will meet with the Ethics faculty on Friday, March 26, 2010.
2) An ARC Scoring Workshop is scheduled for Friday, November 12, 12:00
p.m.-4:00 p.m., EpiCenter. Maggie will mention the need for a
facilitator to Jesse, and Janice will follow-up with Kay Burniston.
3) Maggie and Jesse will conduct an ARC Scenario Writing workshop at the
Faculty Champion Meeting on Friday, May 21.
4) Nursing has administered their ARC scenario and held a scoring event.
Janice has downloaded student assignments. Follow-up?
5) Gail has begun a process to revise the ARC. Janice sent Gail a copy of the
Ethics ARC. Jesse and Maggie have requested to delay discussion of
revising the ARC for sometime before their ARC Scenario Writing
Workshop scheduled for Friday, May 21.
C) Critical Thinking Assessment Test (CAT)
1) The CAT has been administered to all six randomly chosen math classes.
Janice has collected and sorted all the CATs. Janice will ask Anne
Cooper to write a letter to thank the Math Department.
2) Maggie will facilitate the CAT Scoring Workshop scheduled for Friday,
April 23, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., EpiCenter, 1-324. Jesse will provide
back-up.

B) Rubrics
1) More rubric examples: Janice will ask Jesse about his rubric presentation.
Can Faculty Champions create a rubric to assess the Intervention? Look
at other college’s examples:

C) ePortfolio
D) Janice sent a reminder to student activities coordinators about the “Critical
Thinking Programs/Events” form and student survey. Seminole Campus
submitted information on an event that will be held on March 4 centering on
the “Food, Inc.” movie.
Professional Development
A) Per Matthew Stewart of Staff and Program Development, Milton Cox from
Miami University will present two workshops during the afternoons of April
14 and 15, 1:00-3:30 p.m. Further details are yet to be determined.
B) Per Matthew, John Ferron is not interested in conducting an assessment
presentation/workshop.
C) The following still need to be contacted about their willingness, availability,
etc.:
1) Richard Paul – Foundation for Critical Thinking (questioning to promote
critical thinking)
2) Dean Kohrs – “Hacking College” (improving teaching) Janice will look
into the possibility of having him speak at the Fall Critical Thinking
Institute.
3) Anthony Nappi & Michael Repici – SPC (student
engagement/collaborative learning)
C) Critical Thinking Institutes
1) Janice sent an evaluation to the participants of the ART Beach Retreat
held at the Civitan Beach Club on 1/29/10. 22 responded (see results).
2) Spring Critical Thinking Institute (Narrowing the Gulf)
(a) March 18-19, 2010, EpiCenter
(b) Janice teleconferenced with Barry Stein on 2/22/10 to settle any
last-minute details
(i) Janice has completed a check request to have on-hand to
give Dr. Stein when he arrives.
(ii) Janice will request AV support for Dr. Stein’s presentation,
including having his laptop connected with sound
capability.
(c) 18 have accepted the special invitation-only session for Faculty
Champions with keynote speaker Dr. Barry Stein scheduled for
Thursday, March 18, 9:30-11:00 a.m., EpiCenter, 1-324.

IV)
1) Janice met with Mary Hanlon, Barb Heir, and Marja Beaufait on 2/26/10
to clarify completion of the Instructional Portfolio for Physical
Therapist Assistant.
Critical Thinking Resources
A) Gateway Website
1) Janice followed-up with Faith Ocasio about repairing the search feature,
and is still awaiting a response.
2) Janice met with Donna Kelly on 2/16/10. Donna will follow-up with
consolidating and organizing the listing of library resources: books,
journal articles, Web sites, ebooks, and videos, and meet again with
Janice at a later date.
B) RLO’s
1) Karen will conduct an RLO Workshop at the Faculty Champion Meeting
scheduled for Friday, June 11.
C) Instructional Portfolios
1) Janice has followed-up with 2009 Faculty Champions about the
completion of their Instructional Portfolios:
(a) Janice met briefly with Christy Powers on 2/5/10 to emphasize
completion of the Instructional Portfolio for Paralegal Studies.
(b) Janice met with Chad Mairn on 2/19/10 to help review the
remaining pieces of the Instructional Portfolio for Library.
(c) Janice will continue to follow-up with Business Technologies,
Communications, and Paralegal Studies.
2) Janice provided instruction at the Faculty Champion Meeting on 2/12/10.
D) Critical Thinking Resource Centers
1) QEP will purchase institution-wide access to the “Journal on Excellence in
College Teaching” to be accessed through the Library databases.
