The RCAC Library welcomes the donation of theses and other publications undertaken using its facilities.
(*) The RCAC Library has collections for the study of history, art, archaeology, architecture, Anatolian civilizations and Tu rkey’s cultural heritage. Former RCAC Fellows, academicians, students/researchers in the level of MA/Ph.D in the fields listed above can apply for Membership. Graduate students holding academic degree from other disciplines but need to make research in RCAC Library may also apply for membership adding a reference letter
(written by their advisors or academic colleague from their institute or university or other appropriate person) to the other documents. Independent researchers whose researches are directly related to the collection in the library, may apply for membership adding a letter of intention, clearly defining their goals and needs to the particular collections in the library. Duration of the membership changes from 3 months to 3 years depending on the MA/Ph.D period of the applicants.
RCAC LIBRARY ACCESS, RULES & POLICY STATEMENT
The RCAC Library primarily serves the fellows of Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations as well as Koç University students/faculty members. We welcome applications from outside scholars and advanced graduate students who are making research in archaeology, art, architecture, history of art, Anatolian Civilizations, cultural preservation and museum studies in
Turkey and need access to the Library for their own research. Access to the RCAC Library is granted through the RCAC
Library Membership System.
Becoming a member
The RCAC Library has collections for the study of history, art, archaeology, architecture, Anatolian civilizations and Turkey’s cultural heritage. The collections in RCAC Library are specific and there are limited places in the Library for researchers; thus only following categories may apply for membership:
Former RCAC Fellows
Students/Researchers in the level of MA/Doctorate making research in those subjects collected at RCAC
Library:
Archaeology
History
Art
Architecture
Anatolian Civilizations
Cultural Heritage of Turkey
Member status permits former fellows and scholars to use both print and e-resources during all open hours without checking any of them out of the library. Each member can also make 3 book requests once a week from the main campus library in a way to be used only inside. Members can suggest some book and journal titles to be ordered in the context of collection development. Suggestions will be considered in the frame of the collection needs and the library budget.
Membership duration changes from 3 months to 3 years according to master or doctorate period of the applicants.
To apply for membership, please complete the RCAC Library Membership Application Form and bring the documents listed below when you come to the library:
an official student/staff ID (Official identification card from a recognised place of work or study that includes the name of your university/institute/organisation, etc.)
a copy of student certificate
a photo
Completed forms should be handed in the Librarians at least one week in advance of your desired start-date. The library staff needs time to read the application and coordinate an appointment for ID card production.
All members are issued a Library Identity Card that serves as photo identification and must be shown at the security/librarians desk when on RCAC property.

Short-term access
If an applicant is not eligible for Member status and needs access for a short-term period, should complete the RCAC
Library Application Form for short-term access .
Graduate students and independent researchers who need short-term access to RCAC Library’s collection may use the library for a limited time period depending on their need to the collections
(one week, two week, one month etc.)
Undergraduate students from the departments listed above (Archaeology, History, Art, Architecture, Anatolian
Civilizations, Cultural Heritage of Turkey) who need to use the library for a short period may request special consideration to the collections by explaining their research needs in detail to the librarians.
LIBRARY RULES
No person may use any part of the Library until s/he has been formally admitted as a library member. All users on admission must read and sign the following declaration, to which they are committed:
“I hereby undertake not to remove from the library any materials; not to mark, defile or injure in any way any volume, document, or other object belonging to it or in its custody; not to smoke; and not to use a cellular phone in the library. I further promise to obey all other rules of the Library.”
Cellular phones must be turned off before entering the Library.
All users must leave their belongings in the coatcheck area before entering the Library. Koç University can not be responsible for any lost property.
Silence must be observed at all times.
Users should leave books which they want to use for a longterm on the shelves marked “Library Books in Use”
Taking photographs in the library requires permission.
Wireless network must not be used to download programs, films, music etc. beyond the scope of the user’s research.
No user may enter the library before opening time, and all users must leave the library by closing time. All users must leave the library immediately, if asked to do so by a staff member, in the case of an emergency or on hearing the fire alarm.
Food and drink (except water) are not allowed in the library.
In the case of damaging any library materials, the user must pay its cost.
Computer clusters must be used only for catalog searches only.
A particular seat or table can not be allocated to any one user for continuous use.
I agree to adhere to the rules of the RCAC Library and permit to all kind of administrative and legal measures by RCAC library management if I do not follow the rules outlined above (including unsubscribing ).
