Why?
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that
disproportionately affects African Americans,
Hispanics, American Indians/Alaska Natives, and
women of every race. It may be the most chronic
disease among young African American women,
more than diabetes, and mortality rates are highest
among American Indian/Alaska Native populations. It
is a disease that is disproportionately affecting
people in your area of practice.
You likely know someone with
lupus, or have encountered a
possible lupus patient in your
practice. Now you will know how
to recognize the signs and
symptoms, when to refer, how
to co-manage your patients with
a rheumatologist, and how to
answer your patients’ questions.
