Role Profile Job Title: Postdoctoral Image Processing Engineer Generic Post Title: KTP Associate Reporting to: KTP Supervisor School: School of Engineering and Built Environment Department: Engineering Company: Geckotech Solutions Ltd Job Family: Academic, Research and Enterprise Grade: Atypical Main purpose of the role The project provides an excellent opportunity to use cutting edge research skills in image processing to develop a novel combined optical and thermal imaging system and associated analysis software, that will dramatically raise the quality and speed of structural monitoring within hard to reach environments. The project is aimed at creating cutting edge industrial systems, based on state-of-the-art image processing methods, including image registration, stitching and fusion, combined with fast implementation methods. Combined with this, we expect to generate high quality research publications from the work. The post includes a generous budget for training, travel, conference attendance and equipment. The KTP associate will be an employee of Glasgow Caledonian University but will be based at the company headquarters in Edinburgh with regular supervision meetings with the University supervisory team. Summary of Activity: The role of the person undertaking the project is to: Undertake the work plan as defined in the KTP proposal and as agreed by the Local Management Committee. Develop an image acquisition system, combining multiple optical and thermal imaging cameras, and an appropriate housing system. Undertake the development image processing algorithms for image fusion, change detection, image stitching, structure from motion etc. Design, implement and test the above algorithms in low level software (C/C++). Field trial the developed system and full test the developed software. Develop suitable system documentation. In collaboration with the project team, ensure that knowledge transfer is delivered between the Company and Glasgow Caledonian University and embody new skills. Prepare technical literature, PR materials and online operation instructions to support the development of the new image processing system. Travel to, and, participate in conference venues, trades shows and client conferences. Examples of generic activity: Research and Development Conduct appropriate literature searches. Person Specification Criteria Essential Desirable Education, Qualifications & Training Candidates should possess a PhD in Experience with multimodal imaging. Image Processing, Computer Vision or Machine Learning combined with Prior exposure to projective geometry, camera models and the following: calibration. Role Profile First degree BEng/MEng/BSc Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mathematics or Computer Science Skills, Knowledge & Competencies Excellent programming experience in C/C++ and Matlab is required. Experience of image fusion and/or image registration algorithms. Experience of image processing or machine learning algorithm development. Implementation experience using OpenCV and Qt within a Linux based environment. Experience of embedded systems development. Implementation of image processing or machine learning algorithms on a GPU.
