This is a great opportunity to participate in a project to develop high-strength steel technologies for heavy transportation applications. Applicants should have a good honours degree in an engineering or metallurgy discipline with content in engineering materials science, mechanical properties and mechanical design. Experience in mechanical testing, heat treatments, FEA, optical/electron microscopes and X-ray diffraction will be an advantage, as will as a higher degree in an engineering/technology based subject. You will be based at the company site reporting to the Technical Director and receiving additional mentoring support from University staff. The role requires an enthusiastic self starter who can make a significant contribution to company strategy by the development and exploitation of technical innovation. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem solving and communication skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The project involves frequent travel between the company and the university as well as occasional travels in the UK and abroad.
