KTP Associate- Development Engineer

The Materials and Engineering Research Institute at the University is seeking to appoint a recent graduate as a KTP (Knowledge
Transfer Partnership) Associate in collaboration with Tinsley Bridge Ltd. This is a great opportunity to participate in a project to
develop high-strength steel technologies for heavy transportation applications. Further company background can be viewed at

The project involves a wide range of mechanical engineering activity. Applicants should have a good honours degree in an engineering
or metallurgy discipline with content in engineering materials science, mechanical properties and mechanical design. Experience in
mechanical testing, heat treatments, FEA, optical/electron microscopes and X-ray diffraction will be an advantage, as will as a higher
degree in an engineering/technology based subject.
You will be based at the company site reporting to the Technical Director and receiving additional mentoring support from University
staff. The role requires an enthusiastic self starter who can make a significant contribution to company strategy by the development and
exploitation of technical innovation. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem solving and communication skills with the ability
to work both independently and as part of a team. The project involves frequent travel between the company and the university as well
as occasional travels in the UK and abroad.
The appointment offers exceptional opportunities for extensive personal development, including registration for a higher degree at no
cost, mentoring for Chartered Engineer status and further project-specific training. Although the appointment is initially for 24 months
the role has the potential to be developed into a permanent position on completion.
