Topic: Foundation of geometry, introduction to proofs, triangles, triangle classification, triangle
concurrency theorems, introduction to Geometer’s Sketchpad (GSP). Research paper topics.

Required Readings: Chapters 1 – 2 Lial et. al.
Activities and Assignments: Group and individual problem solving, class discussion, work
with paper folding, work with compass and straightedge.
Assessment: Oral presentations of problem solutions, class participation.
Session II: 5 PM to 10 PM
Date: February 22, 2011
Topic: Parallel lines, polygons, symmetry, convexity, introduction to Logo
Required Readings: Chapter 3 Lial et. al., pp. 41 – 43 NCTM
Activities and Assignments: Group and individual problem solving, class discussion, work
with GSP, Logo, and paper folding. Logo demonstration. Viewing of Flatland: The Movie. Oral
presentations of pre-practicum experience.
Assessment: Oral presentations of problem solutions, class discussion. Oral presentations of

Session III: 5 PM to 10 PM

Topic: Quadrilaterals
Required Readings: Chapter 4 Lial et. al., pp. 232 – 239 NCTM
Activities and Assignments: Group and individual problem solving, class discussion, work
with MIRA and GSP. Introduction to Fractals. Viewing of Fractals: Hunting the Hidden
Dimension.
