SMITH BUILDING, or from our SCHOOL WEBSITE: http://www.uq.edu.au/hprc/. The assignment and
attached cover sheet should be placed in the assignment box outside the School Office. The assignment box will
be emptied daily and assignments will be stamped with a date of receipt.
Assignments will be returned by teaching staff. Marked assignments that aren’t returned will be kept for a
period of twelve months after the release of the final results and then shredded.
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP A COPY OF ANY WORK SUBMITTED.
REMARKING OF ASSESSMENT
Students may request reassessment but all requests must be carried out in accordance with
http://www.uq.edu.au/hupp/index.html?page=25109&pid=25075 (HUPP Policy 3.30.1) Please read this policy
carefully as it covers a range of important procedures and policies relating to assessment. In all cases, the
remark will replace the original mark in the calculation of the final grade which could be a higher or lower
grade.
PROCEDURE:
1. Students must seek feedback first from their course coordinator/lecturer.
2. If the student is not satisfied with their course coordinator’s/lecturer’s feedback, he/she should contact
the School Office (email: hprc@uq.edu.au or phone: (07) 3365 2620)
3. A formal application for remarking involves the student lodging a “Request for Assessment Remark”
form and two copies of the assignment (one marked and one unmarked) should be submitted with the
application. If prior to Results Release, the application will be determined by the Head of School. If
after Results Release, the application will be determined by the Faculty in consultation with the
School. Further information is listed below.
TIMING OF APPLICATIONS FOR REMARKING:
• Where marks are available prior to commencement of end of semester exam period the request must be
submitted within one month of release of marks for that piece of assessment and must be submitted before
the finalisation of results.
• Where marks are not available until after the commencement of end of semester exam period: the request
has to be submitted by the following dates: (i) for first semester results, by the first day after the second
semester mid-semester recess; (ii) for second semester results, by the first day of first semester of the next
year; and (iii) for summer semester results, by the first day after the first semester mid-semester recess.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY AND PLAGIARISM
One of the core attributes that the University aims to develop in its graduates is critical judgement: the ability to
apply critical reasoning to issues through independent thought and informed judgement and to evaluate
opinions, make decisions and to reflect critically on the justifications for decisions. Implicit in this goal is that
learning rests on and builds on the work and ideas of others. However, it is important that students in their
learning acknowledge, through appropriate referencing, earlier work and research from which they have drawn
conclusions or interpretations or might advance new ideas. This is fundamental to the concept of academic
integrity in the western tradition.
Essays and other written material submitted must be a student's own work. The University views plagiarism as a
serious breach of examination and disciplinary rules. If you are in any doubt about any aspects of the rules
concerning plagiarism please check with your tutor or lecturer. Essays and assignments, should not consist of
pieced together extracts from text books or other references, represented as the student's own work. While you
are encouraged to discuss questions and issues that arise in class the written work you submit must be entirely
your own.
Plagiarism is the action or practice of taking and using as one’s own, the thoughts or writings of another without
acknowledgement. When a deliberate act of plagiarism is proven, the results of the assignment, exercise or
procedure concerned may be annulled and such other action may taken as Senate may consider appropriate in
the circumstances of the case. This may result in loss of credit in a subject and/or suspension of enrolment at the
University.
Please refer to the UQ Handbook of University Policies and Procedures for further information:
