GALLERY EXHIBITION SUBMISSION GUIDELINES MARCH 2011 PHILOSOPHY This is an appointment only gallery. By virtue of being hand-made, each print includes its own intrinsic beauty that makes the image unique. This allows the viewer to feel the photographer’s presence; proof that the artist is an integral part of the work. This gallery provides a venue for these hand-made photographs where viewers can be assured of the photographs longevity and uniqueness. Practicing artists who create hand-made photographs may apply to exhibit in gold street studios gallery. THE SELECTION PROCESS FOR EXHIBITIONS The selection process is set in place to maintain a high standard of work. There is a panel of six members, and four must be in agreement for the work to be accepted at each stage. Exhibition submissions each year are accepted in July and January THE FIRST SELECTION STAGE Submit no less than 15 but no more than 20 jpeg image files on a disk. The images should be no larger than 72 ppi 5inches (125mm) on the long side. Include with the work: 1. Artists CV 2. Artist statement 3. Information about the photograph a. The medium (i.e. gelatin silver, salt print) b. The year photographed c. Form of capture (i.e. large format 4 x 5 film) THE SECOND SELECTION STAGE After acceptance of the first selection stage artists will be invited 1. To submit six exhibition standard prints. 2. If the work is accepted but the presentation of the mats is not up to standard the artist will be asked to either resubmit (or gold street studios can quote on a matting service). 3. If the image requires attention i.e. spotting the artist will be asked to resubmit (or gold street studios can offer these services). 4. Works must be signed on the print, this can be on reverse outside the image area or the image. NOT ON THE MAT BOARD 5. Editions - the print must be a. Signed numbered and dated by the artist - NOT ON THE MAT BOARD b. Edition records must be held by the artist EXHIBITIONS A contract between the gallery and the exhibiting artist will be drawn up - below offers a basic outline of requirements. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Exhibitions will run for 6 weeks minimum. There will be a commission of 40% on sales The panel will just select the best work from a complete folio if the standard is not consistent. All photographs must be matted in 100% cotton museum board All methods and materials to embrace the ethic of conservation framing - fully reversible Each photograph must have a certificate of authenticity created by the artist or gold street studios (and signed by the artist) Each photograph must be submitted with a digital image and information relating to that photograph. To maintain a high standard frames used for the exhibition must be submitted for approval No MDF backing/filler boards in frames will be accepted The gallery can supply standard frames. There will be a minimal charge covering preparation and fitting mats into the frames. There will be no rental charge however the photographer will be expected to cover the costs of: 1. Printing and posting invitations. 2. Any advertising the photographer may wish to carry out. 3. Cost of drinks and food for the opening occasion.
