Who is Imagine Schools? We are an organization, comprised mostly of teachers, that operates public charter schools and independent schools in 9 states and the District of Columbia.

Our mission is to help parents educate their children by creating learning communities of achievement and hope. Imagine Schools was founded with the goal of restoring a sense of vision and purpose to the learning environment and to restoring schools and parents to full participation in and responsibility for the education of their children. Imagine Schools’ founders, Dennis and

Eileen Bakke, are passionate about making a difference in education by applying a unique organizational and operational structure guided by shared values of integrity, justice, and fun.

This structure puts teachers and school leaders squarely in charge of the decisions affecting the schools they serve.

Our vision for new schools in the DC/MD region is to create dynamic, joy-filled learning communities where character is both taught and modeled, decision-making is shared, and all members of the school community take responsibility for achieving excellence. We seek to fulfill this vision through a commitment to content-rich learning, character development, and meaningful community.

Standards for Teaching in an Imagine School

Our standards for performance are composed of six criteria that let us know how well we are achieving our mission of helping parents educate their children. Teachers in Imagine schools hold primary responsibility for maintaining these standards:

· Shared Values – How we live the Imagine Schools Non-Profit shared values and philosophy in everything we undertake.

·

Parent Choice – Defined by parent satisfaction and re-enrollment rates.

·

Economic Sustainability – Financial responsibility is a crucial part of accountability to parents, students, and other stakeholders for public schools. It is vital that leaders understand the need to steward resources in a way that makes our schools sustainable over the long run.

·

Academic Achievement – We emphasize yearly student learning gains as indications of academic progress and achievement.

· Positive Character Development – School leaders should consistently integrate and evaluate the Imagine Schools Non-Profit commitment to character development.

·

New School Development – In an effort to help the most number of parents educate their children, it is important to continually expand the size, number, and quality of our schools.

We believe that committing ourselves to these standards ultimately leads to a joy-filled school environment in which all are valued, all are responsible for their actions, and all are working toward the common goal of student success.
