A majority of students applying to professional programs in health care (i.e. physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant etc…) are required to have a course in medical terminology. This course will meet the needs of these students. The Department requests a course number at the 20000 level below 21300.

Biol. 2XX00 Medical Terminology
Credits: Lecture 2, Lab 0, Credit 2
Medical terminology covers the medical language and terminology used by health care professionals. Medical terms, abbreviations and definitions will be covered with associated anatomy. Students will acquire a basic medical terminology vocabulary. This knowledge will allow students to communicate effectively in a health care setting.

Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this course students will be able to:
Analyze, spell and define medical terms correctly.
Identify prefixes, suffixes and roots of medical terminology.
Use medial terms to communicate effectively in all settings, but specifically in health care settings.
Recognize and define common medical symbols and abbreviations.
Identify main structures of body systems.

Many professional programs in the health sciences (i.e. Physical Therapy; Occupation Therapy; Physician
Assistant etc…) require students to take a Medical Terminology course. Addition of this course will allow PUC students to take the course here, as opposed to having to enroll at a different institution.
