Do they answer orally or in writing, individually or as a team? They participate as a team. Each team has one packet on which to respond. A designated team member writes the team’s response. 2. Do they need to provide their own pencils or pens or will they be provided? We will provide pencils and answer packets. 3. How many teams are competing in each heat? We expect up to 51 teams for each heat given space considerations. Depending on numbers in each heat the top 3 to 5 teams will compete in the US Finals. 4. Where will the heats be held? For this year the heats will be housed in Welte Auditorium on campus at CCSU on Wednesday and Thursday evening prior to the Final. Teams will be assigned to Heat A (Wednesday) or Heat B (Thursday). 5. Which heat will my students be assigned? Teams will be assigned to Wednesday or Thursday evening to balance numbers of teams for each heat. We will try to honor requests if possible. All teams from a school will be assigned to the same heat. You will be assigned a heat when your registration has been confirmed. (Please contact Catherine Kurkjian if there is an urgent reason why one date will work over another.) 6. If a member of one of my teams does not show, may the other 3 compete? Three registrants may compete. Some districts have an alternate who attends- (no registration fee.) If you have alternates, please send me their names so I can prepare certificates of participation for them. 7. Where should parents park? Is there a fee for parking? Parking is available behind Welte Hall. Please see attached CCSU map. 6. Approximately how long will the competition last? 3 hours (100 questions) in segments of 10 (based on categories of questions) with a short break for water and snacks etc. 7. If my team wins how will we finance our participation in the Finals Please note that it is the responsibility of the school/community to finance the airfare, and spending money. This year the World Final will be held in New Zealand in August and so time for fundraising for the trip will be extended a few months. Best of luck for a wonderful experience for you and your students! Dr. Catherine Kurkjian Kurkjianc@ccsu.edu
