JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Management Accountant (20 Hours per week) Responsible To: Finance Director Responsible For: No staff report directly to the Management Accountant. Liaises with: All Grand Opera House Personnel/Visiting /Suppliers/Patrons/Sponsors/Trustees Production Companies/Contractors Purpose: The Finance team supports and integrates fully with all other departments at the Theatre and the ability to cooperate with other departments and teams is essential. The Management Accountant will actively support the finance function of the Grand Opera House whilst ensuring the accurate maintenance of financial records and adherence to proper financial procedures. Main Duties Monthly Management Account Preparation Preparation of monthly management accounts, ensuring all journals have been posted and adequate narrative for each item of expenditure. Produce wage analysis spreadsheets for each department manager which illustrates actual spend against budget. Liaise with all department managers, informing them of spend to date, analysis against budget and obtaining explanation for any variances. Document these meetings and obtain approval from each manager of their expenditure to date. The monitoring and investigation of total organization variances against budget and the preparation of variance reports for the Finance Director which will be used to inform the Trust of any over/under spend. Assist the Finance Director in the forecasting of end of year overhead expenditure. The preparation and posting of journals as required eg prepayments, sponsorship, and deferred income. Balance sheet account reconciliation and correction of reconciling items. Reconciling various cost and income streams to appropriate reports -1- Production of sponsorship income reports and ensuring costs/income are accounted for in the correct period. Assist each department manager in the production of the departmental overhead draft budget each year, providing advice and guidance on prior spend. Assist the Finance Director in the preparation of the year end statutory accounts. The preparation of ad hoc reports as required by the Finance Director Other Finance Administration Maintenance of Theatre’s fixed asset register, ensuring all assets are physically checked at least once a year and that the addition and disposal of any asset from the register is accurately recorded. Ensuring that the financial records of the Theatre are filed in adherence to the Theatre’s storage system and that files are archived accordingly. To verify cash balances each month end eg Main Safe, Box Office Safe, Admin Safe and Petty cash General administrative duties associated with the finance team. Other related duties as may reasonably be required by the Finance Director. Finance Department Structure Finance Director Senior Finance Officer (FT) Finance Officer (FT) Management Accountant (20hrs) Finance Assistant (FT) -2- Production Accountant (FT) Person Specification Qualifications: Essential Fully Qualified Accountant (CIMA / ACCA / ACA / ICAI ) or 5 year’s relevant experience and IATI qualified will be considered in lieu of qualifications. Experience: Essential At least 3 year’s practical experience in the preparation of management accounts. At least 3 year’s experience of a computerised accounting system. Strong Analytical Skills Strong levels of attention to detail should also be coupled with the ability to work to tight reporting deadlines. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word – production of excel reports and scenario analysis. Benefits: Desirable Experience of working with Pegasus OPERA.
