JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Management Accountant Grade: Department: Role reports to: Finance Office Senior Management Accountant Date of Job Evaluation: Direct Reports Indirect Reports: N/A SG7 Budget holders Other Key contacts: This role profile is non-contractual and provided for guidance. It will be updated and amended from time to time in accordance with the changing needs of the University and the requirements of the job. PURPOSE OF ROLE: You will have a key role to play in the delivery of the management accounting objectives of the Finance Office. You will have responsibility for the provision of a wide range of management information and advice and will also have a role to play in the preparation of the budget and management accounts of the University and its subsidiaries. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1. Business Partner: providing management accounting services to Schools and Offices to support their financial planning and budgetary control; costing of activities; identification of revenues; cost\benefit analyses; formulating and phasing of budgets; budget management; financial forecasting. 2. Supporting the development of the University financial plans and budgets; forecasting of salary and other costs; collation of School and Office budgets to form University wide budget; 3. Support the University’s budgetary control arrangements; ensuring approved School\Office budgets are accurately uploaded onto financial system; reporting to senior Finance Office managers variations to planned financial outturns. 4. Supporting the preparation\ of the management accounts for the University and its subsidiaries including schedules and analysis. 5. Assessing long-term affordability of new / replacement staff and other proposed financial commitments in Schools/Offices within portfolio of post-holder. 6. Ensuring accuracy and completeness of all school / office income streams including that from academic collaborations. 7. Supporting training for school / office finance managers to improve budgetary control. 8. Enhancement of management information; use of Business Objects and other reporting platforms for preparation of management information reports. 9. Supporting the work of producing the statutory accounts for the University and its subsidiaries; preparation of schedules\analysis\analytical reviews. 10. Providing information in support of bids and other funding requests; completing returns to funders and other bodies. 11. Analysis of data for management information; costing of activities, identification of revenues; cost\benefit analyses. 12. Effecting interface of financial data (e.g. payroll) between systems, ensuring accurracy and completeness. Maintaining various operational databases. 13. Supporting electronic and other payment processes (e.g. BACS) 14. Other duties commensurate with this evolving role.
