Class Procedures:
How do I know what is expected of me during class?
 Success in all courses is more often determined by your attitude and work ethic, rather than your ability; therefore, I expect
everyone to have a positive attitude and be willing to work for the entire period.
 Respect for others is important in the classroom, as well as in life. I expect you to address us with respect and look at me
and listen while I am talking. In return, I will do the same for you.
 All behavior will be consistent with the Code of Conduct of Hewitt-Trussville High School.
How is attendance recorded?
 Attendance will be recorded immediately following the bell. If you are not in your seat and ready to work when the bell
rings, you may be marked tardy.
Where can I find the assignments?
 The activities for the day, including the homework assignments and upcoming tests/quizzes, will be posted on board each
day. Homework is due at the BEGINNING of class.
 Late assignments will not be accepted and will result in a zero. This includes lab reports and classroom activities that
have been given a due date.
What do I do if I have been absent?
 It is your responsibility to find out what assignments you have missed. A MAKE-UP folder is located in the front of the
room and will contain information regarding assignments for each day. If you have additional questions, please see me
either before or after class.
 You will be informed of tests several days prior to the test. Therefore, if you are absent prior to a test, you will be
expected to take the test with the class, provided no new information was covered during your absence.
 Missed tests and quizzes are made up before or after school. It is the student’s responsibility to make an appointment to
make up the test or quiz. If you miss a test, you must make arrangements to take the test within a given time window or
you will receive a zero for that test.
What if I need extra help?
 You may come for extra help during advisory (with a pass!!) or you may make an appointment. I do have hall duty at least
once each month and occasionally meetings are scheduled that interfere with this schedule. These are beyond my control.
 When coming for extra help, it is expected that you have specific questions prepared in advance.
 Youtube, Georgia Public Broadcasting Chemistry, KHAN Academy, and iTunes U are also a great online resources for helpful
videos.
What are procedures for test days?
 Tests will be taken in pencil. Please be sure you have an adequate supply. Calculators will be provided and cell phones will
be placed in a designated location.
 Once a test is distributed, no communication with other classmates is permitted until the last student has finished.
Communication during a test will lead to a grade of zero.
How do I prepare for lab days?
 You must turn in a signed lab safety contract and pass the safety test before you will be allowed to participate in a lab.
The safety contract in located in the “syllabus” portion of my website.
 Closed toes shoes and pants are required on lab days.
What happens if I don’t follow classroom policies and procedures?
 If you choose to disrupt our learning environment, you will be held accountable for your behavior. Discipline issues will first
be handled by an individual discussion of the situation, then a parent contact if the problem continues. If the problem
persists, you will be referred to the office.
Other Rules and Expectations
 The use of cell phones and other electronic devices (iPOD, mp3 players, etc.) is not permitted during class time. Devices
may be collected and turned into the office!
 You must take all safety precautions seriously. This means wearing safety glasses during every lab, for the entire lab!
 NO CHEATING!!! Some examples of cheating are: copying someone’s homework, copying someone’s lab, or copying
anything else! Cheating will result in a zero for the assignment, quiz, or test, and a discipline referral.
Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions, comments, or concerns using the contact information at the beginning of
this document. If you need to see me outside of school hours, please be sure to make an appointment. I am looking forward to an
exciting and productive year. Good luck in the upcoming year!
