Cell Analogy Poster
Analogy: a comparison between two things which are similar in some respects, but otherwise are
different. An explanation of something by comparing it point by point with something else.
1. Draw a plant or animal cell in pencil on white paper. Include all the organelles for that
type of cell: rough and smooth E.R., Golgi Body, cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus,
ribosomes, lysosomes, nuclear membrane(plant cells also have chloroplasts & cell
walls). Extra points for the nucleolus.
2. Title your poster as a Plant Cell or Animal Cell.
3. Research the function or main job each structure has in the cell. (notes or book will help)
4. Find a magazine or newspaper picture, drawing, etc. of an everyday object which has a
similar function or structure as each cell organelle.
5. Write an original analogy to show the similarity between the cell part and the everyday
object (The nucleus is like a brain because it controls and coordinates activities of the
whole cell in the same way the brain controls and coordinates activities for the body).
Remember, original means it is your analogy, not mine, your friends', or the book's.
6. Paste your cell drawing in the middle of the construction paper. It should not be a huge
poster, but larger than regular paper.
7. Paste the color pictures of everyday objects at the edges of the construction paper.
Label the pictures with the name of the organelle, neatly written (or typed) analogy,
and make a pointer to the correct structure in your cell drawing.

You will be graded on neatness, accuracy, originality, and completion. Date Due:
