Important Core Writing Class Information What we will be learning about in Core Writing Class? We will be studying narrative, informational, and persuasive writing, along with grammar and punctuation. General Classroom Expectations: I expect you to… 1. Be on time. 2. Be prepared. 3. Raise your hand. 4. Follow directions the FIRST time. 5. Use proper manners. 6. Show good character. What are corrective/disciplinary actions that Miss Michael will take with regard to misbehavior? Students who choose not to meet classroom expectations will attend a behavior retraining. During behavior retraining, the teacher will model the correct behavior for the student. The student will then practice the correct behavior. Students may also have to stay in for lunch detention either in the classroom or the office. Other disciplinary actions such as after school detention can also be assigned to a student if they severely or repeatedly break the rules. What do I bring to class everyday? 1. Three-ring binder with the necessary papers included in it- you will be provided with a three-ring binder, which will be divided into sections for notes and other class handouts with the tab dividers you bring to school. 2. Agenda- assignments will be written in your agenda daily. You can find your assignments written under the “Homework” section on the front whiteboard. You will also use your agenda as your pass to get from place to place. 3. Pencil and eraser 4. Accelerated Reader book What types of assignments will I be graded on throughout the school year? -Tests -Quizzes -Projects -In-Class Activities – All worksheets, activities, and group work may count for completeness or accuracy. -Homework How will homework be graded? The purpose of homework is to practice the skills and content learned in class. Homework enables the student to discover their strengths and weaknesses and ask questions prior to a quiz, test, or before submitting a project. You need to attempt each homework question and show the work asked of you. If you do not understand your homework: ASK QUESTIONS!! Homework will not count as a proficiency grade, but rather as a responsibility grade. What if I miss a day? According to the handbook, you are responsible for getting assignments when you miss class for an appointment or an illness. It is your responsibility to ask a classmate or myself what you missed. Ask if anything was collected, notes taken, or worksheets given. It is extremely important for you to come to class because classroom discussions cannot be duplicated. Students may be required to stay for lunch or after-school tutoring to make-up missing work. In the case of an absence due to illness, work will be given an extension of one day for everyday absent without penalty. Where can I find my homework listed on the CCSD website?
