Teachers are expected to have a graded bellwork
assignment for students at the beginning of each
period.
Establish firm guidelines from the beginning
 Meaningful and consistent
 Help keep students academically engaged from bell
to bell



Research shows effective classrooms engage students in
academic activity as soon as they come into class.
If students know the expectation is to work from the
minute they enter the classroom and are never given the
opportunity to get off task, it is much easier to keep
students on task.
Reduce hallway distractions
 Prepare students for EOC, HSAP, and other testing
