Description
The Compaq AlphaServer DS20 server offers unprecedented performance at an entry-level price. With up
to 4 GB memory capacity and 5.2 GB/sec bandwidth, the Compaq AlphaServer DS20 server has the power
to drive even the most demanding compute-intensive applications. This performance and capacity make the
AlphaServer DS20 server an ideal system for high-performance technical computing, datamarts, business
applications, and Web hosting.
The Compaq AlphaServer DS20 server offers many of the features of Compaq high-end AlphaServer
systems, packaged into an affordable, entry-level office pedestal design, including high availability features
such as hot-swap disk drives, ECC memory, and redundant power supplies. The AlphaServer DS20 server
provides excellent scalability, with support for up to two 500-MHz Alpha 21264 CPUs, up to 4 GB of
memory, six 64-bit PCI options, and up to 128 GB of internal storage.

The Compaq AlphaServer DS20 server is an ideal Web hosting platform. It features many options required
by today's intranets, including dual processor capabilities, internal secondary storage with a RAID
controller option for external arrays, and integrated management augmented by the integrated remote
management console.

The Universal Alpha server
The Compaq AlphaServer DS20 system supports DIGITAL UNIX, OpenVMS, and Windows NT. The
DIGITAL UNIX and OpenVMS models are Compaq Universal Alpha servers, which users can easily
redeploy as a Windows NT server if their IT business needs change.
Remote management
Integrated Remote Management Console (RMC) provides easy remote management and system diagnosis,
thus reducing the need for specialized on-site personnel. With RMC, an operator can monitor vital signs
such as temperature and power, and control the server -- on/off, reboot, and other commands -- all from a
remote location. An auxiliary regulator allows the system to be interrogated even if it is turned off or shuts
down.

Availability and ordering
DIGITAL UNIX and Windows NT systems will ship as part of the Early Ship Program (December
1998/January 1999). Minimum revision of operating systems: DIGITAL UNIX V4.0E, Windows NT 4.0.
OpenVMS systems will be available at announcement (January/February 1999).
Two SCSI channels, hard disk drive, and network adapter must be on purchase order at initial order
acceptance. See the Systems and Options Catalog (SOC) for details.
Requirement for two SCSI channels can be fulfilled by ordering one KZPCM-DA, two KZPBA-CA, or one
KZPBA-CA and one KZPAC-xx.
