COURSES FOR TEACHERS OF ENGLISH SEPTEMBER 2008 Week 1: 15-18 September (from 3.30 – 6.00pm) A: LANGUAGE IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES FOR SCUOLA ELEMENTARE TEACHERS This course aims to help teachers to increase their English language skills especially in the area of pronunciation, speaking and fluency. The type of activities used during the course will also be suitable for adaptation and exploitation for your own classes. B: LANGUAGE IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES FOR SCUOLA MEDIA INFERIORE TEACHERS Concentrating principally on spoken interaction as an outcome of written and spoken input, this course aims to help teachers to increase their English language skills especially in the area of pronunciation, speaking and fluency. The type of activities used during the course will also be suitable for adaptation and exploitation for your own classes. Week 2: 22-25 September (from 3.30 – 6.00pm) C: LANGUAGE IMPROVEMENT FOR SCUOLA SUPERIORE TEACHERS This course offers secondary school teachers an invaluable opportunity to participate in an intensive series of advanced language study, concentrating particularly on the areas of pronunciation, speaking and fluency. The type of activities used during the course will also be suitable for adaptation and exploitation in the secondary school classroom. D: TECHNOLOGY AND ICT This course will look at how learning technologies are enhancing the way teachers teach. We will look at ways of integrating the internet in class and have practical demonstrations and practice sessions using the IWB (Interactive Whiteboard). This course will be suitable for all teachers of all levels with little or no experience of using technologies. Week 3: 29 Sept-2 Oct ((from 3.30 – 6.00pm) E: TEACHING PRONUNCIATION During this course we will look at the features of English pronunciation which pose problems for Italian learners. We will examine a range of techniques to help students improve their intelligibility and increase their confidence when speaking. F: TEACHING LITERATURE This course will look at the use of authentic Literature in the classroom. It will be a practical course demonstrating techniques and ideas for presenting language through the use of classic and contemporary novels and poetry.
