What is a Peer Mentor?
A peer mentor is a friend, a resource, a helping hand, a sounding board, and a
referral service. A peer mentor is a wise and trusted advisor who guides others
through a particular experience The job of a Scholar’s Academy Peer to Peer
Mentor is to provide support, encouragement, and information to 9th grade
Scholar’s Academy students.
Are you looking for a way to get involved in school and help other students at the
same time? If you have the desire to be a positive influence and help 9 th grade
students make the most of their high school years, you should become a peer
mentor.
Eligibility:
 Must be a rising junior or senior








Must have a desire to help 9 grade Scholar’s Academy students
transition to high school
Must be in Scholar’s Academy and have at least a 3.0 GPA and no
disciplinary referrals
Must have a positive attitude towards school and learning
Must have a strong attendance record
Must have a general knowledge of school activities
Must be involved with at least one extracurricular activity at school
Must create a profile on the Scholar’s Academy social networking site.
Responsibilities:
 Participate in a training workshop on August 19th from 8:30 am to 9:00
 Participate in freshman orientation on August 19th from 9:00 to 12:00
 Meet during lunch time every each month’s First Friday throughout the
school year
 Keep a written log of your communication with your mentee.
 Remain on campus for lunch the scheduled peer mentoring dates
 Maintain contact through phone, email or Scholar’s Academy social
website or Facebook on a weekly basis.
 Welcome the students to high school, familiarize them with school
culture, and encourage involvement in extracurricular activities

 Application must be typed or neatly printed using black ink.
 Mentors will be notified within 1 week of receiving application
 You must be available for training on August 19th. No exceptions!

PEER TO PEER MENTOR AGREEMENT
2010 – 2011
__I have read and understand the expectations of the Scholar’s Academy Peer 2
Peer Mentor Program at Miami Beach Senior High School.
__ I agree to commit my services to the Scholar’s Academy Peer 2 Peer Mentor
Program at Miami Beach Senior High School for one full academic year.
__ I agree to serve as a positive example for my mentees.
__ I agree to attend a training workshop, a freshman orientation, and all lunch
meetings and to be punctual. I will contact my program coordinator and my
mentee in the event that I will have an unexpected absence.
__ I agree to complete a quarterly log of the frequency and duration of
communication with my mentee (the Peer 2 Peer Mentor Log) and submit this
information along with my appropriate community service forms to my program
coordinator.
__ I agree to maintain confidentiality at all times unless the well being of my
mentee or someone else is at risk.
__ I agree to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.
I gladly accept these responsibilities, knowing that in doing so I will be able to
assist my mentee on the path to success at Scholar’s Academy at Miami Beach
