SAMPLE PROPOSAL – VISUAL ARTS WORKSHOP
DESCRIPTION
The community of
is offering the following hands-on workshop to provide an
opportunity for aspiring and experienced visual artists to learn the techniques of mural
painting. This will encourage participants to show pride in their community by creating
large public works of art which reflect the natural surroundings and the cultural history.
PARTICIPANTS
This two day Mural Painting Workshop will provide art instruction for two target groups:
 Students and young people of the community
 Adult novice artists and experienced visual artists
Members of the community will be invited to participate (at no cost / at minimum cost for
materials etc.)
METHOD
The instructor (include resume or background) will spend time in demonstrating
techniques and sharing examples of their own work. Participants will learn the types of
materials used in the process, and the methods used to prepare large-scale images.
Participants will help to select appropriate locations in the community where murals can
be painted. Preliminary designs and sample works will be prepared, as a means of
selecting images for various locations in the community.
OUTCOME
The community will benefit from the creation and installation of permanent visual
images which enhance and celebrate the history and landscape of
, for
residents and visitors alike. Participants will learn about a painting process, which
encourages a shared and cooperative approach to the artistic experience.
The training in arts techniques and skills for a community beautification project may also
lead to summer employment opportunities for youth and unemployed persons.
EVALUATION
The instructor and participants will examine sample works in-studio, and determine a
schedule for completion of murals at selected sites in the community. The community
will be invited to choose from sample or preliminary work before finished art is created.
