THEATRE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT JANÁČEK ACADEMY OF MUSIC AND PERFORMING ARTS, THEATRE FACULTY Study programmes concepts Aim To prepare theatre and stage managers, self-confident and effective members of creative artistic teams. The Theatre Management Department educates professionals for operation departments of theatres and creative industries institutions. It benefits from its placement at a university of art (or more precisely academy) at the Theatre Faculty of JAMU within which the studio develops team work and cooperation principles. Interconnection between theory and practice and a possibility of verifying theoretically acquired knowledge in managerial and staging practice under teachers’ supervision seems optimal training both for a real and a research activity which is a big challenge for specialized areas of theatre and stage technology. Production Management Bachelor study – Production Management I. Applicant´s profile A graduate of a grammar school, business academy or other high school finished with graduation exam. A person of broad horizons, interested in culture and performing arts, especially theatre, and having an idea what an enterprise is. He/she is capable of logical consideration and systematic thinking, understands a written text very well, is able to write a clear text, is well versed in a system of a state, regions and municipalities and financing of culture, has good formulation, presentation and communication skills, self-reliance, initiative and creative thinking. He/she is visibly motivated for study/the field and inquiring (interest in milieu, active searching for information on the study programme/school). He/she desires to organize, cooperates with people and be a member of a team. He/she is able to work flexibly in changing conditions and is proactive in seeking opportunities for his/her employment. He/she speaks English at high school level minimally. User knowledge of information technology necessary (office application as Word, Excel, PDF, internet, email client). II. Graduate´s profile We prepare theatre managers for middle management positions in theatres, able to work independently in own agencies, persons with deep knowledge of leading working groups and departments in a theatre, with a complex awareness of the theatre environment issues, with good language skills and legal knowledge, specialized in management of artistic companies and marketing departments of theatres and artistic agencies. He/she is able to found own agency. Master study - Producing I. Applicant´s profile A graduate from bachelor theatre management study programme at Theatre Faculty JAMU or related bachelor study programme at JAMU or other university whose bachelor thesis, documentation of a bachelor graduation project and seminar papers and managerial performances portfolio show extraordinary quality and whose intent of further study (theme of a diploma theses and a graduation project proposal) proves high level of managerial thinking in the field of broader cultural management and demonstrates expected ability to reflect theoretically practical phenomenon appearing in cultural management and cultural projects. An applicant fulfils requirements for strategic (producers) thinking, is capable of abstraction, analysis and synthesis and understands fully a creative process and work of a creative team. At presentation of intent of study, summary of diploma thesis and intent of graduation project an applicant proves his/her ability to present, communicate and express ideas clearly, comprehensibly and in a structured way. He/she is visibly motivated for study/the field and has a clear vision of future professional employment. He/she speaks English at advanced level. Information technology knowledge exceed the level of a common user competences substantially (ability to work with freeware and presentation programmes, ability to administrate websites, use the internet environment for team work, sharing documents and marketing purposes). II. Graduate´s profile We prepare theatre managers going beyond theatre management and understanding general cultural management (art management); professionals with deep knowledge of shaping and management of a theatre, position of theatre in society, foundation activities, NGO financing in the Czech Republic and abroad, well informed about foreign management while reflecting history and tradition of European theatre and relating management, with excellent language skills enabling perfect communication and cooperation with foreign partners, with extraordinary legal awareness and deep knowledge of theatre issues (theatre theory and technology). A graduate can use his/her education in: Czech and foreign theatres of all kinds, artistic agencies, Czech and international cultural projects, an own agency, state administration and self-government bodies. Stage management Bachelor study I. Applicant´s profile A graduate of a high school finished with graduation exam. A person of broad horizons, interested in culture and performing arts, especially theatre, and having an idea what an enterprise is. He/she is capable of logical consideration, understands a written text very well, is able to write a clear text, is well versed in a system of a state, regions and municipalities and financing of culture, has good formulation, presentation and communication skills, selfreliance, initiative and creative thinking. He/she is familiar with mechanics, electrical engineering and electronics at the grammar school graduate level minimally. He is visibly motivated for study/the field and inquiring (interest in milieu, active searching for information on the study programme/school). He/she speaks English at high school level minimally. User knowledge of information technology necessary (office application as Word, Excel, PDF, internet, email client). II. Graduate´s profile We prepare theatre managers able to manage artistic-technical departments in the fields of stage lighting (senior electrician), stage sound (senior soundman) and stage set (head set builder) or to manage all these artistic-technical professions in a theatre (the head of artistictechnical operation of a theatre - stage manager), persons with a complex awareness of the theatre environment issues, with good language skills, specialized in theatre artistic-technical fields (light, sound, stage set), able to found and manage agencies offering services in the above mentioned fields.
