He has been instructing periodically for well over 20 years. Georgetown University - Professor Ed is a part – time instructor in the McDonough School of Business. He began in the fall 2013 semester (2013 -2014 academic year) , teaching courses in accounting and in auditing. He has previously taught auditing at Georgetown as an adjunct professor in 2007 and again in 2011. Career Summary Ed has close to 40 years’ experience in the public accounting field. Ed currently serves as the Managing Partner of Catalyst Hiring for several industries within the firm. He identifies and attracts high-level individuals to PwC. During this time, he had client responsibilities at FDIC and USDA. He has also spent significant time in the San Jose office working with office leadership on risk and operational matters. From 2007-2010, Ed spent virtually full-time in a leadership role in a global auditing project. He was the Chief Operating Officer/Partner for our AURA Project. AURA was a complete design and build of audit software for use by PwC globally. Among his responsibilities was leadership of the design and testing of all training associated with this new audit software. His role required him to spend virtually full-time travelling to San Jose, New York, and Tampa, among other locations. In 2004, Ed became the Managing Partner of PwC’s Washington Federal Assurance Practice. He was named Chief Operating Officer of both the Assurance and Advisory Practices in June 2005. This business unit works directly with the major cabinet departments and other large agencies of our Federal government. Ed had client relationships with Department of Defense, Social Security Administration and Department of Health and Human Services. From 2001-2004, Ed was the Managing Partner for the Central Region Assurance Practice (22 offices, 180 partners) and Managing Partner for the Healthcare Advisory Practice (35 partners). Joint revenue for these practices was in excess of $750M. In October 2000, he joined the US Operations Leadership team and worked full time on the restructuring of PricewaterhouseCoopers in anticipation of the divestiture of several lines of service. He reported directly to two members of the US Leadership Team – the US Managing Partner and the US Operations Partner. From May 1998 through September 2000, he served as leader of the Global and Americas Assurance Services Industry. This business included approximately 100 partners and revenue in excess of $250M. He had overall responsibility for assurance and business advisory services provided to healthcare companies, the transportation sector, engineering and construction companies, government entities, law firms and other professional firms, higher education and not for profit entities. Prior to his appointment as PwC Global and Americans Assurance Service Industry Leader, he was the Midwest Region Assurance Managing Partner with responsibility for 110 partners and 20 offices, including Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Pittsburgh and St. Louis. Formerly, he was Regional Managing Partner of the Firm's Central Region Financial Services Industry Practice, as well as leading the Assurance practice in Dallas and having overall responsibility for the HR function in the Central Region. Mr. Machir's past client experience includes spending a significant amount of time servicing clients in the financial services industry, which includes responsibility for the examination of financial statements of commercial banks, investment companies and investment advisors, savings and loans and broker- dealers. He also has extensive experience in the trust service area. He has been engagement partner on Fidelity money market funds and served Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase. In addition to his financial services industry experience, he has had involvement with both publicly-held and privately-held clients. He has had responsibility for the overall examination of the financial statements of, among others, a communications company, a specialty staffing company, several law firms, a telecommunications company, a railroad, a specialty retailer, government contractors, a high technology manufacturer, hotels and professional sports franchises. He has worked with these clients in a variety of SEC filings including initial public offerings, large debt filings and stock issuance, among other things, and assisted them in the various aspects of corporate acquisitions and divestitures. Mr. Machir also has litigation consulting experience, which includes calculating damages in antitrust and breach of contract litigation, tracing and verification exercises in bankruptcy, divorce and fraud litigations and reviewing the work of other accountants in a malpractice case, among other things.
